It took me somewhere between 30min and an hour after I found the render to make.

I really liked one of Drago's renders that he gave to delta, so I made a practice sig with it. Sue me.

I ended up making part of it into an avatar for Drago

Here's a sig I made. How is it? Give me some constructive criticism.

My Sonic character Spike, I finally got around to finishing him.

Thats pretty good Puke. Everything goes together nicely. THe only problem I see is that the text is pretty hard to read because it blends with the background. You also may want some more lighting effects.

Did you squash that render vertically? You might not have, and I see no reason why you would, but for the record it's never a good thing to do. That aside, this is an improvement on what you've made before — the effects compliment the render and the text, though somewhat difficult to read, is not detracting from the focal. My suggestion would be to blend the render into the background a bit more so the two feel less like separate images. One way I often accomplish this is by using a 100px soft eraser to carefully remove some of the 'out-of-focus' parts of the render, namely at the bottom where it meets the edge of the sig.

The other thing is lighting: if you look closely, you can see that the light falling on the render is coming from above and to its left. Establishing a light source to compliment this would be a good way to make it look more realistic: the easiest way to do this is to just get a large soft brush and place it in the spot you want it, on a layer above the render (as the light source appears to be in front of the render rather than behind it in this case.)

I know I'm speaking in terms of Photoshop when you're using GIMP, but hopefully enough of it translates to be of use.

Not bad. The black goes well with the rainbow mane and the cutie mark look quite good on him (that pony is a boy right).

Mares have a more pointed muzzle. I believe he's a stallion.
