| I was just wondering how stuff gets on the MPN. I just looked on the MPN today and found this terrible n00b creation that I commented on and uprated to make the guy feel better. Is one R+ all it takes to get on the MPN? | |

| It must've been mass-uprated by his/her friends. Everyone does that. | |

| How does one define "mass uprating" anyway? If a creator has some subscribers who all like the creation so they decide to R+, is that mass-uprating? More importantly, is it always a bad thing? | |

| I'd say nearly everyone would consider mass up rating a bad thing unless it's a really good creation. | |

I would have thought that's the regular MPN system.

| Sometimes, if I post my creation on GAC and ask people to uprate it for me to get attention, it gets on the top five of the MPN quite easily. Is that considered mass-uprating? | |

| The MPN works off the quantity of uprates or downrates the creation has received, and updates itself every 24 hours, wiping off any creations that were created the day before. (I think it runs on pacific time, I don't know) That being said, it can take a while before everyone in the spore community wakes up and begins to uprate. So if you were to uprate a creation VERY early in the day, chances are it'll be on top of the MPN for a very short time.
Mass-Uprating, simply put. Is griefing. It's normally done by someones friends using alt accounts to uprate it into oblivion. Regardless of the creation quality, yes. You could argue that Parkaboy is being mass uprated, by he's getting those rates legitimately. As he isn't having some of his friends uprating it, or using 10 alt accounts.
And yes Gelo, that technically does qualify as mass uprating and is generally an unsavory and n00b way to get attention, I've done it once before. I won't deny it, but you don't really earn the MPN spot.

This is all true, but it's not only up/downrating, It's also how many views and comment (I know because some creations have no up/downrating, sometimes just that a lot of people downloaded it or viewed it.

| Ohhh. So that's why people with a lot of subs get on the MPN so easily: it's auto downloaded to hundreds of computers! (Oh my god. Just realized what it could mean if spore were hacked. *shudder*) | |

| Yikes. I don't want to imagine the possiblity of hacking into Spore's rateings. | |

| If you want numbers. You only need 10 people to uprate you to make it to the top. If you have active subs its the easiest thing ever. | |

To do that would mean hacking into Maxis' servers, which are encrypted. People have threatened to take down the Sporum, before, only to turn out to be full of hot air because the task was nigh impossible. I do not foresee the Sporepedia, rating system and all, being hacked any time soon.

| But seriously, you would have to be a pretty sad excuse of a human being if you wanted to hack into the Spore servers for amusement. | |

| Not what I meant. I meant if someone hacked into someone with practically infinite subs like Parkaboy and replaced all of the creature files with malware. People's spore downloads it automatically or they click "download" and now they have a virus. | |

Actually, you would have to hack into Maxis' spore database. You can't replace his creature files with just his account, you would have to hack into the serves so you can get it to have the virus inside it. If you only used his account, the virus probably wouldn't go far.
