Nerrone's Rangers: The Swires Affair IC Nr_swi10

Nerrone's Rangers: a small mercenary group operating in sector B-12, fourth spiral arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. Lead by a hard-bitten Arthinnil and a cunning rogue Mallium, this motley crew of soldiers, specialists and vagabonds travel the cosmos taking on any assignment: from burglary to assassination, for good cause or bad, for the money or for the kicks. If you can name it, they will do it... For the right price.

Things are brewing in this galaxy, and there is no-one better placed to see it than those who travel under the radar. The Coalition, a group of allied empires, fights tooth and nail to keep peace and justice alive in their corner of the galaxy, and a power known only as The Kingdom schemes its campaign of fire and conquest to take over. Caught in between is every innocent, every scumbag and every bounty hunter just trying to make his way in the universe.

Welcome to the Rangers.
________________________________________________

The setting of this RP is very loosely based on the Spore Space stage: faster-than-light travel is commonplace in the form of warp-drives, which propel vessels through pocket dimensions in space, as are energy weapons and advanced computers. Often, however, there are extreme technological differences between places, primarily based on the resources at their inhabitants' disposal. The protagonists are a group of mercenaries called Nerrone's Rangers, lead by Dagon and Kwa. After closely preventing the Kingdom's attempt to destroy the floating city of Santa Frerraro on the desert world Ariid, they were roped into helping the Coalition track down the strike cruiser responsible for the attack — the Sword of Damocles — via a tracking device placed there by Coalition agents. The players' mode of transport is the Lacuna, a run-down smuggling ship somewhat in the vein of KOTOR's Ebon Hawk:

The Lacuna is a mid-sized smuggling vessel used by the Rangers to get them from place to place and as a de facto base of operations. Its floor plan and layout is something like as follows:

Nerrone's Rangers: The Swires Affair IC Lacuna10

The Lacuna looked about as hard-worn on the inside as it did on the outside — the interior could really do with a spot of paint and maybe a polish on the metal surfaces. There were several closet-sized bunk rooms along the port side for the crew to sleep in, on the starboard side a poky living area with a kitchenette, dining table and a bedraggled sofa in front of a holo-screen. Up front could be found the cockpit, the control center for the whole vessel. At the rear were the landing-ramp and the engineering deck, though most of the latter ran unseen below the main deck until it met the storage bay.

It has also, in the course of its service, been armed with a rack of 5 EMP torpedoes.

________________________________________________

"Brace yourselves everyone, we're about to come out of warp-speed."

The deck of the Lacuna shuddered underfoot. Outside, beyond the port-holes in the ship's living area, the blackness of warp-space gave way to starlight and the planet Drall, its sun just cresting the world's silhouette and skimming its moon as they approached.

Drall was a wild T2 to T3: a living world just on the edge of Coalition space, almost uninhabited up until a recent colonisation effort. At any rate, that was what the Coalition had been lead to believe.

"The thick jungles at this world's equator hide a place you may or may not already be aware of." Kwa had a file up on the holo-screen in the Lacuna's living area as she gave the briefing: a digital representation of the approaching planet and its moon, with a single key location marked.

"Its inhabitants have taken to calling it Swires, after the giant shipwreck it was built on," she continued, "It was like a gold rush when they found the downed vessel, as the stories go: Spode knows what it was actually carrying but apparently it was enough to draw in every pirate, smuggler and ne'er-do-well from light-years around. Enough of them set up shop to keep the place going even now, decades later, and enough of them had brains to keep the Coalition from sniffing around — that I personally find most surprising."

"Nowadays the settlement fills the ship's impact crater top to bottom. The place is packed. And about two days ago, the Sword of Damocles stopped there — and hasn't moved far since, if the tracking beacon is anything to go by. Our task is as follows: find the ship, reconnoitre the Kingdom's presence here and report it to the Coalition."

Dear 'Commander Ce'Ahk' had better be grateful for this. Kwa's eyes narrowed slightly as her sister's name crossed her mind. Dagon, for his part, was fairly upbeat.

"Swires ain't so bad this time of year," he said from his seat in the kitchenette, on the other side of the room, "just don't order the local brews: when it goes down your throat you can almost count how many people it's been through beforehand."

((The IC is open, start introducing your characters!))

"Well that's one place I can scratch that off my list of 'places to go on Drall.'" Nab'desen, more commonly known as Nab, remarked on Dagon's comment on the drinks on Drall. He turned his attention back to Kwa "So let me make sure I have this straight; Your sister, who happens to be a Coalition commander, put a tracking devise on some some huge-arse Kingdom warship, and expects us to be a pain in the backside for it?"

He received an aggressive-sounding answer for the local Parox Lampora, Jrakel, "I really don't care what she wants us to do," he said as he bend down to work the cricks out of his neck, "right now I just want to not worry about hitting my head on the ceiling."

Kwa turned to Nab'desen.

"That's the long and short of it. The whole Coalition Fleet has been called out to the other side of the sector to engage the Kingdom's forces directly. Before Ce left she foisted this on us, as an alternative to having us taken down for that dog's breakfast on Ezekiel IV."

Ezekiel seemed so long ago now — a mess of stalls, people and sand tossed in every direction by howling winds as a Coalition raid on a black market outpost went wrong. The Rangers had been responsible for the deaths of at least three Coalition Law Enforcement officers that day, and they had not been best pleased.

Hadron shuffled uneasily in his seat in the living area. These chairs weren't exactly designed with Orthavian anatomy in mind, but he made do. He was a bit preoccupied with the upcoming mission.

"As far as we know, we're not going to have to do any fighting, right? I mean, as long as we keep a low profile, these ruffians shouldn't be too much trouble... And I'm kind of hoping that we won't run into any trouble with the Kingdom. To be honest, I'm a bit scared of them. I haven't really had any encounters with them yet. In fact, I hadn't even heard of them before joining you guys. Funny, right? I never knew they were such trouble..."

Knightmare usually would care less about formality, introductions, morality and even mission details. She felt like the crew was never really fond of her. Knightmare's backstories were hardly believable. Even she doesn't know how she looks under her nanoarmor. Knightmare tends to think that she's a decaying piece of meat under the suit-- it wouldn't be too surprising considering how the self-evolving nanobots tend to replace most of her organs over time. Synthetic sight, synthetic hearing, synthetic touch... maybe even synthetic thoughts. What if the nanobots were now thinking for her? What if after centuries the nanobots evolved into a true AI rather than a brain-impulsed VI? While it's probably just a paranoid speculation she tried not to think too much about it.

She actually tried to act normal this time. She went and sat on a chair, even if she didn't need to due to not having organic stamina. She silently listened into what she thought were less than interesting conversations. Trying to draw little attention towards herself.

Nab'desen smirked at Hadron's suggestion of stealth, "You're implying we'll have to be subtle, we kinda threw subtly out a window, to the wind, and into a vat of hydrochloric acid when we hired megalizard here." he said, pointing a thumb at Jrakel. Nab'desen immediately retreated farther back in his chair as he heard Jrakel growl, "I was kidding!" he said, hoping to not make the Parox Lampora decide to kill him painfully.

Jrakel snorted at Nab'desen's attempt to calm him as he dropped down, using his second pair of arms as forelegs. He turned his gaze on Kwa "If it wouldn't be too much of a detour to the mission, I might look for a bar and see if there's any drunk enough or stupid enough to try and fight me, I need to work out some excess aggression."

"I know a few places like that!" Dagon piped up.

"You are going to be on the job," Kwa returned, "I need you on the ground while I pin down the tracking beacon's exact location from here, and feed it to someone who isn't face down in a gutter."

"Do you have any specific job in mind for me?" Hadron asked to Kwa. "I wouldn't mind staying here in the ship, where's it's safe. You know, unless you need me for something, which is all right too, I guess..."

PostSubject: Re: Nerrone's Rangers: The Swires Affair IC   Nerrone's Rangers: The Swires Affair IC EmptyFri Jul 12, 2013 6:24 am

The door of the aft bathroom opened and Flank walked out enveloped in steam like he was stepping out of a cryosleep chamber. His shower was long and hot, as much for the purpose of thoroughly cleaning him as it was for providing a sort of therapeutic relaxation. Needless to say, the events leading up to him joining the rangers left him bruised, aching, and almost infused with dirt and grime.

Flank coughed a few times; his race wasn't suited to breathing damp air so steam often had that effect on him. He reached back into the bathroom and switched on the exhaust fan before closing the door behind him. The steam began to clear to the point where he noticed that Samantha was leaning against the wall opposite the bathroom, waiting for him.

"Do we need to get a new tank of hot water?" she prodded.
"You were waiting for me?" he asked, mildly surprised. He started walking up the hallway.
"You know how I am around new people." Samantha pointed out, matching pace with him. Although at nine feet tall, she had to duck her head to stop it from hitting the ceiling.

Flank gave her an inquisitive look. "I didn't know you cared about what kind of first impression you made. Yesterday you almost flipped these guys off."
Samantha just shrugged dismissively. "They were offering a job, something that was becoming hard to find back on Las Thaddas."

They entered the living area.
"It's probably swarming with them, now." Flank noted. "Two cities get hammered, I bet everyone's using the opportunity to get what they want, or hire people to do it for them."

"Probably. So what'd you do with those two guns you picked up yesterday?" asked Samantha.
"Deposited them before we left." Flank rattled off. He loved collecting new firearms whenever he got the chance, but Samantha always had him deposit them in a storage bank or he'd overburden himself.
"Good man."

They approached the sofa and parked their rears on it, although it took Flank's load with a groan of protest. He was only around a foot shorter than Samantha yet he was more than twice her weight.
"So what's new?" he asked.
"Apparently the drinks on that planet are terrible." Samantha said, directing Flank's attention to the planet visible from the portholes of the ship. "And we came out of warp speed."

Flank twisted his head around to get a look at Drall. "Huh. Well I bet I can't drink them anyway; they probably have those bloody round necks on the bottles."
"Don't worry Flank," Samantha chided, patting his leg, "We'll find you a straw somewhere."

((I'd assumed this, but can we write in first person?))

Sciris slouched in a corner, the only sound made being the soft hissing and clicking of his respirator. By habit, he scanned the room and its occupants repeatedly, noting any limps, scars, past injuries. It wasn't entirely unlikely he'd have to try to dispatch one or two of them if they tried to make out with more than their fair share.

I'd bet it'd be lizard-man. Bold, brash, and what looks like enough brute strength to rip one's head off. Not to mention that behind all that animalistic brawn there was a sharp, keen gleam to those eyes.

Then there was that other creep. Perhaps creep was the wrong word. He, she, it, whatever, sat on a chair several feet in front of him, encased entirely in armor -something about its quiet manner and attempts at “fitting in” unnerved him. Like a good Karis* player, it had no discernible tell.

I’m here for one thing, and when I’ve got that, they can go smash each other’s skulls in as they please. Besides, it’s better working with this band of misfits than spending the day with the scum from the interstellar Varian mafia...filthy pack of dogs. At least here, at the moment, everyone was bound together by money, not torn apart by it, though that could come soon enough. Money; useless on its own, invaluable around others.

Kwa turned to Hadron.

"Not keen on stretching your wings?" Kwa and Dagon — mostly Dagon, Kwa hastened to remind herself — had hired their share of oddballs, but Hadron just didn't seem to fit. The military gear and implants said 'mercenary' but everything else, from his attitude to his body language, screamed 'civilian'. Kwa hadn't made up her mind yet.

The planet before the Lacuna continued to grow closer — soon they would prepare for landing.

"No, that's not it..." protested Hadron meekly. This was the first reliable job he had in a while, and he didn't want to blow it. Trying to sound as tough as possible, he said, "You know what? I don't want to be cooped up in this ship. Send me down to the surface with the others. I can handle a few ruffians. No big deal."

((Please excuse my relatively low posting rate — between some academic commitments and the steam sales I've been a little preoccupied. >.< On an unrelated note, perhaps you guys could drop some hints about how recently your characters joined the crew, either here or on the OOC, just to give us a bit of context.))

Kwa seemed satisfied with the response, and soon afterwards the Lacuna breached Drall's atmosphere and descended. It was dusk in Swires — a town built exclusively into the side of an enormous crater, out of a cruiser's cannibalised wreckage. Huge hull plates and long, wide metal walkways jutted out of the crater's side at varying heights, hosting the bulk of Swire's buildings and casting deep shadows beneath, such that the pit's depths were shrouded in darkness even at midday.

The Rangers had a good view as their vessel spiralled down in search of a landing pad: A few fires were lit at the bottom of the crater, silhouetting a jumble of metal struts holding up the enormous hull plates above, upon which sat any number of hab blocks, some market stalls and taverns, a smattering of betting pits and a couple of scrap yards. Up towards the surface the buildings were no less shabby, but yet maintained a more grandiose air — the largest, in the very centre, seemed to have been built out of the former capital ship's bridge: a metal dome with translucent canvas draped over gaping holes in its top.

Kwa brought the Lacuna in to land on the east side of town, near the markets.

"Alright everyone, this is our stop!" Dagon called out, heading to the back of the vessel to disembark.

"I'm picking up the signal from deeper into the crater," Kwa said into the comms, flipping a few more switches in the cockpit and lowering the landing ramp, "Maybe halfway down, it's challenging to judge the distance."

"Really?"

"Come up here and see for yourself if you like — the Sword's beacon is down there somewhere. We had better get started."

Walking out from the ship, Sciris set foot on the ground. From their flyby, it’d looked like they’d landed in a grungy, slightly industrial area with solid bridges of metal, but the ground felt soft, almost like...

Nice. Just stepped in a slushy pile of…whatever. Doesn’t matter. I don’t know what or who that was, but it’s stuck like permacrud to my shoes, and it stinks even worse than the spaceport authority personnel. Only way to get it off would be blasting it with my revolvers, but that might disintegrate my boot, too. Not up for a duel with my own shoes anyhow.

This place stinks of gasoline and long-expired milk. Nothing to wax lyrical about, but the not the worst festering dunghill within the galaxy either.

Smudging crap over the sidewalks, Sciris eyed the swindlers, gang members, and drunkards. Important as it was to complete their objective, he wouldn't mind ridding the galaxy of a couple of these miscreants if they got in the way.

..they're why I'm here, after all.

Hadron disembarked after Sciris, careful to avoid the malformed pile of whatever it is he just stepped in. From what he could tell from here, the place wasn't exactly the crime-ridden cesspool he expected. The way that the residents had made a home out of a wreckage was almost beautiful; the great expanse of metal sheets and girders seemed organic in the way they must have been built it up over countless years. Really, it was a sign of cooperation and civility. Even the galaxy's most immoral, self-serving crooks were able to band together and craft this beautiful monstrosity to call their home. It seems difficult to even judge against people who could accomplish so much.

Hadron snapped out of his daydream. He couldn't see it yet, but he just knew that one wrong step in this neighborhood could leave him gutten and stripped of all his armor. He shuddered at the thought. His plan was to stay as close to his allies as possible at all times, and never stray off the main path. Hopefully this mission would be uneventful.

Knightmare didn't exit the ship too hastily. She stayed at the loading bay door, checking for anything unusual at the exit. Maybe explosives or even snipers at the rooftops of what seemed to be trash heap excuse of a town. It wouldn't be the first time she had both of those at the same time. She checked both for tripwires and lens flares. She was disappointed to only find a pile of what seemed to be an almost liquid substance of discharged plasma or trash.

She exited the loading bay door with caution, she felt safe until a drunken resident jumped her by surprise. He spoke with a stuttering and rough voice.

“How much are you selling that armor for, babe?” he said. Knightmare didn't give him the satisfaction of an answer. “Playing rough, huh?” he said with a more aggressive tone, “That’s okay, I didn't have the money either way.”

The drunk attempted to pry the armor from Knightmare. She went at a speed undetectable by the naked eye, almost as if she teleported. She appeared behind the drunk and sliced off his arm with her blade. The drunk fell into the pile of goo that she saw earlier.

“You’re lucky that you’re still alive.” Knightmare said with a synthetic voice. She threw a few credits his way.

“Enjoy them while you still can.” she said coldly.

There was a *beep* from the direction of the landing ramp as Dagon tapped a button on his wrist-watch.

"It's a new record!"

Kwa and Dagon — mostly Kwa, Dagon hastened to remind himself — had hired their share of complete psychopaths, but they had never had a case of grievous bodily harm less than a minute after landing.

It took at least half an hour on Ariid, Dagon reflected glumly.

Someone nearby screamed and a handful of the drunkard's friends, stood twenty meters away by the door of a tavern named The Rusty Spigot, stared agape at the scene, not yet certain whether to run or retaliate.

"What in Spode's name just happened?" Kwa's voice chimed in on the comms.

"...Uh." Dagon replied into his headset.

((You may all assume you are equipped with some kind of communicator.))

Nerrone's Rangers: The Swires Affair IC Empty

Hadron didn't feel the need to respond to Kwa. Somebody else would say something. In fact, he was too appalled to say anything. Why did they have to get into a fight already? It had barely been a minute since they disembarked!

Thankfully, though, these men seemed relatively harmless. They barely outnumbered Hadron's allies, maybe only by one or two men, so if they did decide to fight, it would be a pretty easy win. Nevertheless, Hadron sent some neural signals to his shock blade, preparing to unsheath it at the slightest movement. He wouldn't attack until the enemies do.

Nerrone's Rangers: The Swires Affair IC Empty
PostSubject: Re: Nerrone's Rangers: The Swires Affair IC   Nerrone's Rangers: The Swires Affair IC EmptyWed Jul 17, 2013 1:37 am

Flank and Samantha were at the loading ramp when the incident occurred, Flank having just picked out some ammunition for the trip and Samantha fetched her rifle and grenade launcher.
"Would you kill me if I made a 'disarmed' joke?" murmured Flank.
"Kill you and rape the corpse." Samantha muttered back.
"Sounds like a date, then." Flank said as he descended the ramp. Communicating with Samantha entailed a lot of playing along, although sometimes that made it hard to tell when she was being sincere.

"Alright soldier," he chirped, picking up the downed drunkard and his arm with ease, "on your feet."
As Flank led the disorientated man, his severed arm and the credits that were thrown at him over to the bar where his friends waited, Samantha felt it prudent to address Knightmare.

"Don't look now, but we're not standing in a very courteous crater of pirates and thieves. We're trying to hunt down the cruiser, and if you've ever hunted, you'll know that hacking the local wildlife to bits is a good way to scare off your game.

"Don't get me wrong, I hate the occasional grope too, but what could that guy have done? You could have stood there while he made an arse of himself trying to pull your armour off."

Knightmare ignored most of the scolding she got from her teammates. She ripped off some the cloth left on the dismembered arm and cleaned the blood off her blade. Knightmare then disintegrated the blade into nanobots and fused it back into her body. She could hear a voice she knew as Samantha. Knightmare hesitated for a moment give an answer.

“I would expect this kind of a reaction from an inexperienced mortal such as you.” Knightmare stated. “If you actually knew how to hunt, you would know that striking fear into your target is the best way to make them do something that they will regret.” she said. “Although, I can see why you don’t agree with scaring off the target, seeing how laughable you are, I’m surprised that you can even scare off an ant--”

Knightmare turned toward Samantha’s direction and poked her chest in an aggressive manner.

“--and don’t you dare remark my armor as some kind of plaything. Don’t act like you know the emotional and physical horrors I have been through with this curse. Don’t act like I feel no regret for all the lives I've taken with this suit.” she growled.

“Dossiers can only tell you so much...” Knightmare finished as she backed away from Samantha, regretting all of the insults she said to Samantha.

"I'm sorry..." she said with a less screechy synthesized tone, "...let's just get back to our mission at hand."

"Well goody," Samantha chided, her voice keeping its condescending pride despite the scolding she had just received, "I can't wait to see that cruiser slip up because it heard you hacked an arm off. It probably didn't see it, but I'm sure news travels fast in a crater full of drunks. The mission is half-way done!"

She stepped down from the ramp, but at nine feet she was still looking down at Knightmare when she reached the bottom.

"But I don't remember saying anything about your armour being a toy, or what you've been through, or even giving a crap about who you've killed. I get it: life bit you on the arse. But maybe you should spend the next century or so learning not to project all your problems when someone reminds you that cutting people up is a bad idea."

She stepped closer, holding her rifle off the filth-covered ground. She had to tilt her head further forward to see Knightmare.

"I'm sorry too, but not for me. You're older than God, apparently, and it looks like you deal with your problems like a little kid. I'm no scholar, but I'm pretty damn sure you could use that to define 'laughable'. Now--" she turned to address the rest of the gathered Rangers and the now-returning Flank, "--if anyone else has any ideas for shaking up a strike cruiser, now would be the time to suggest them. If not, then now's a good time to start tracking it down: while it doesn't know we're here. With some luck, we might get close before its crew starts preparing for us."

She turned and started heading towards the centre of the crater.

"I just hope my hunting skills aren't too shabby."

Storm's brewing. Not formed by dust, or rain, but a brown, stinking, whirling mass of angst-filled feelings, fueled by a walking fridge and the giant lady who hangs out with cannon-boy. Kinda pisses me off. Felt like blasting a hole through their craniums, but even if that'd worked, it'd only make things worse.
If one of them screws the whole thing up through some untamed emotion, then they'll have something more to worry about than a pack of emboldened drunks or druggies.

Sciris slipped swiftly through the crowd, avoiding any association with his teammates, passing by pubs, campsites drug dens, and the occasional nutcase. Something caught his eye, however.

Casino. Back to where I started. Not like I'd been stupid enough to gamble away my savings or anything that night, intoxicated as I was. Went well, actually. Finally thought we'd move out of the poorer district, get out of that desperately mad house of beggars. She left us a while ago, but I've sill gotta do it. Prove to her I've changed. And him, too. He's a good kid. Didn't deserve what he got.

He moved on towards the signal.

Jrakel hauled himself to a bipedal stance as he disembarked, towering over the other rangers, "And here I was thinking I'd get to kill something." he said, looking at the situation.

"Speak for yourself." Nab'desen replied as he passed Dagon. He turned his gaze to Knightmare "Nice work breaking the record for someone to inflict grievous injury on someone right out of the mission, also; were you just born without common sense or did it you loose it over all the centuries you've lived?" He made no attempt at hiding his aggravation before speaking to Samantha, "I could find some high ground and use my rifle's scope to search for things that look like what we're looking for."

Samantha was still a bit miffed by what Knightmare said, and had a fair lead in front of the group. Nab'desen had to run ahead and catch up before he could say anything to her.

She took a while to think about what he was suggesting before answering, being something akin to a sniper herself. "If you feel like monkey-crawling your way to the top of this mess..." she indicated the twisted metal jungle above them. "... then you might be able to see further into this hole. But if you can spot the ship from up there then you probably won't need a scope to see it, it's that big. The real problem is how dark it's getting. If you've got night vision on your scope, or in your little Christmas light eye, then that'd be dandy."

She looked at her own rifle. It was long enough to be confused with a sniper rifle, and then plus some, but it didn't have a scope; Samantha preferred iron sight aiming. The front half of the barrel was detached from the rear half, but still attached to the gun by way of four short connecting rods that slid back and forth on rails on the sides of the rear half. This served to keep the rifle short enough to carry comfortably when it wasn't needed, but when it was, the barrel could be reassembled with the touch of a button.

Samantha had been contemplating putting a scope on the rifle anyway, not so much for aiming but because a night vision feature could be really useful. If something needed to be shot from half a kilometre or more away, Flank's cannon was the go-to, but neither of them had night vision. Maybe she'd have some questions to ask Nab'desen before long.

Flank meanwhile kept pace with the rest of the group, preferring to follow Dagon's tracking device rather than Samantha's guess as to where they were going. So far they were going in the same direction, but that was subject to change. He had sorted the ammo he brought with him into separate pockets — one pocket for each ammo type — and he only brought around ten rounds of each. After thinking the situation through, he chose to load his cannon with plasma rounds, filing ten rounds into the clip and leaving just three spare.

He cocked his head when Samantha started talking to Nab'desen. Normally after a bit of a row she'd be snapping at people like a crocodile and bear trap hybrid. It was nice to see she was at least making friends, or perhaps just not making an enemy out of him. She was bound to break out into a fight from the start anyway, that much Flank knew from experience, but it usually took a bit longer for her fuse to run short. Or maybe Knightmare lit it by the other end.

((Flank's clip can fit 10 rounds, regardless of ammo type))

Knightmare was still angry about Samantha’s reaction to her apology, what pained Knightmare more was how correct she was. How she bonded with the armor was one of her most sensitive subjects, enough for her to act immature over it. She didn’t want to strain herself too much to reopen the argument; Knightmare knew if she had persisted to argue the situation would have gotten ugly really fast with Samantha’s rash attitude.

Knightmare noticed that she and a couple other members were cut off from Dagon’s group. Knightmare teleported to the top of The Rusty Spigot, trying to scout ahead. She used the suit’s HUD to zoom in and examine the surrounding. All she could see were endless rooftops around the area. She later overheard Nab and Samantha talking about looking into the crater. Knightmare switched her HUD into night-vision, but she heard the crackle of electricity and her helmet sparked as she got shocked by the override fuse. Knightmare fell on her knees; she was shocked—literally and figuratively.

Knightmare got up and was unsure on why this happened. When non-critical functions stop working it’s usually a sign that she’s running out of bio-energy to support the suit. Not now, please not now… she thought as she smacked her right ear to check whether or not her comm was still working. She didn’t want to mention to the other Rangers that she needed to feed sooner or later.

“I… I can’t scout anything from my position” she said, trying to hide her distress, “... my night-vision isn’t working, I can’t see into the crater also.” she said into the comm. She jumped back down using her stasis lock to ignore the fall.
