The man wheezed.

"Are you an angel?" He inquired.

He opened the flap, and revealed himself to be this scrawny, pale man. and his eyes widened. He fell over, backwards, scrambling for the back of the tent, looking terrified, and coughed heavily.

"Please, oh god, please no! I'll take the angels over you! You can turn me in yourself back at home, just don't kill me! I'll tell you anything, just... please." He pleaded.

He seemed to remember him clearly, and recalled Malus's words.

"Wait, what do you mean you don't know me? Are you testing me or something? You're that slave that rebelled. You're supposed to be dead, and you ended up killing one of my men during your fight!

The tent walls expanded mush like the tavern did, and both of them found themselves in a dark building with a concrete floor.

"Please, I had nothing to do with what happened to you, I just dealt with the transits. The men who chopped you up? They weren't my guards! What are you doing, let go of me!"

Malus found his arm locked to the man's neck, and couldn't let go of him.  As he felt his grip tighten, he seemed to have no control over his body at this point.  His body seemed paralyzed. That's when he noticed his hooves were back to normal, he could feel them now, even in this state of nigh-paralysis. In looking down, he also saw his amulet glow. Was it influencing his actions? He could only ask the man questions at this point.

Slave.

Malus was completley lost now. What was this man talking about? Was the slavery accusation supposed to resemble something more, or was this all a ruse that the cowperson made up? Is this how he became who he was? Is this why he became a monstrosity? Malus needed to ask more before either the amulet's power ends up killing the man, or even himself.

"These men who sliced me, who are they?" Malus ordered, making note to speak clearly to avoid misunderstanding. He didn't really want to waste time with his words since his body wan't under his control.

The man gagged as both of them grasped at his neck.

"The men? I don't know! I know who employed them... I don't know the actual *grk* guards, but I know the *mng* client who hired them... please let me go once I tell you, won't you?"

He looked at Malus dead in the eyes, face red and eyes swelling up. Malus's grip was getting tight.

"His na-blc- name's Grigore Popa. He was a powerf-UK- powerful man back in his day! Lost it all when the army found -hic- him... But you know what the funny thing is, friend?"

The man coughed up blood.

"He's still go' a lot of power. And... He's-*hkuuaaa*

The man's arms loosened from Malus's hand, and his voice came only through with a faint breath of air, still choking from the asphyxiation.

"He's here in Paradisia!"

Malus held tight, even  as the twitching stopped. Eventually, The amulet's glow abruptly went out, painting the concrete room black with darkness, and then Malus fell to the floor, landing in the same sticky fluid he found himself stepping on when he met the Taur. He felt as if he was still dreaming, but this floor reminded him of home. Just as he thought darkness would overtake him, a light came from a window and revealed a candle, along with a box of matches on a drawer. Without light, Malus could not see anything else in this room.

As Malus lazily clumbered about with the matchbox, he realised how dry his tongue felt. He hated it when he woke up with a case of dry-mouth. He'd thought of investing in a muzzle to keep his jaw closed, but the act of keeping something like that next to your bed may seem questionable to visitors, as little as they were. He lit the candle, and what he noticed stopped his thoughts from continuing.

His amulet wasn't where he left it. He was wearing it.

Malus quickly found himself scrambling to take it off. He yanked it over his head, causing it to tangle around his horn. In panic, he began to pull forcefully on it, tyring in vain to get it off. His centre of gravity was quickly overturned, and he faceplanted into the hard concrete floor. Malus whimpered slightly, not knowing what to do. He suddenly felt a light scratching on his face. He quickly forced himself to look up, only to find his whip sitting in front of him, using it's flails to stand itself. He must've woken the poor thing up.

"Ah..Sorry, prieten." He said, camling himself. He shouldn't get himself worked up, he was awake now. He slowly pulled himself off the ground, gently picked up his whip, and placed it on it's cushion on the table. He then pulled the amulet off his horn, and studied it. Surely it couldn't harm him in the real world....

....could it?

Knocking an empty Honey Mead bottle in the middle of his struggle to remove the Amulet, he looked down at it and wondered...

"Surely it couldn't harm me in the real world... could it?" He had been so caught up in taking the Amulet off that he never noticed what laid at his hooves until now. Next to the small pile of Honey Mead bottles, he saw something that could've made him swore he was still dreaming; he just awoke to a murder scene.

...a murder scene that he created.

At the concrete floor of his house, mere inches away from his bed laid the man he saw in the dream, laying dead in a pool of his own blood, with his wings ripped off of his back and red marks all over his throat. Hand marks. Strangulation marks. To his left, in the room with the bath, he saw another dead Saintly, impaled by a wooden board of some sort... He looked up and saw that a board had been removed from his roof. That board he swung around in his dream had ended up inside this Saintly.

What did this amulet do to him while he was asleep? He surely couldn't have brought these Saintlies here to kill them, and if so, why did these ones in particular decide to pop into his house? Was the man in his dream really the Saintly in reality? And if so, were his confessions actually said in the real world? Who was this Grigore Popa, and if he really existed in the real world like these intruders did, then-

He turned his attention to the bodies. For all he knew, he could've murdered these men in cold blood while the amulet had influence over him, and he knew that the other Saintlies would start looking for them. Regardless, one important thing lingered in his mind; before anything else, he had to dispose of these bodies before Aulair, Krista, Sycal, Cosmac, or heaven forbid, Staine, came to his door bringing news about their next mission.

The clock on his wall struck 06:00. That only left him with half an Earthly hour to clean this entire mess up before he was to meet with Aulair at the Interrogation facility.

-----

MALUS DREAM 1 COMPLETE

ALL MEMBERS MAY POST NOW.

-----

Cosmac had been sitting in the interrogation facility all night. The traitorous captain still hasn't talked, and they've been going at it all through the night. He checked a nearby clock: 06:00, just 30 earthly minutes before Paradisia's artificial sunrise began, and before Staine, or one of his messengers comes to brief the details of their next assignment.

"Now, if only she'd would hurry up and squeal already..." he mumbled to himself, fiddling with his kinetic shotgun, assembling and disassembling it just to pass the time.

Each minute seemed longer than the last, 06:00 turned to 06:15, 06:15 turned to 06:20, 06:20 turned to 06:23, and only now, after it lingered for an eternity, it struck 06:25.

"Five more minutes... Oh, come on, somebody's gotta come here eventually..." He continued to mumble to himself, alone in the hallway separating himself from the traitor's holding cell. Time ticked on again...

PostSubject: Re: Sentain IC   Sun May 25, 2014 2:48 pm

Having slept for several hours the night before, Krista woke up early in the morning. She had slept well, leaving her feeling well rested — maybe even heavenly. Her dreams last night were... satisfying, it seemed. All she remembered about them was that they achieved closure before she woke up. Her bedroom was still mostly dark, but pre-dawn light was filtering through the curtains drawn across the window on the wall to her right. The head of her king-size bed was against the wall opposite the door, and above it, a large red banner hung. The wall on the left was wooden and sported a door to the bathroom.

She raised her arms above her and stretched, arching her back, which again caused her wings to violently unfurl themselves from under her back, swiping various objects off her bedside table. That woke her up.

"Verdammt!" she whispered, not yet ready to yell. She pushed down on the mattress and sat up to see what had been knocked to the floor. Her guns, which she had neglected to put away after she got back from Domain 4, a book from Earth that she had been reading, and a souvenir from her training. She couldn't reach any of them from the bed, but it did remind her of a spell that could put them back. She shut her eyes as she attempted to remember the incantation, then uttered it, but without much conviction or certainty. The items on the floor suddenly bounced up into the air and toppled gracelessly onto her bedside table. One of her guns fell off again.

Krista sighed, swung her legs out of bed and got up. A pair of slippers waited to keep her feet off the cold, red and white, marble tiled floor, and a dressing gown to keep the cold air at bay that her nightie couldn't. She slipped into both and left her bedroom to start a fire in the living room, which was just a little colder than her bedroom. She tossed a few logs into the fireplace, then held out her hand, palm up, with fingers bent. She muttered a basic spell, and a magic circle appeared around the firewood. It spun rapidly before it shattered and the ethereal shards dissolved, leaving a bright orange fireball in its place. It quickly burned into the wood and began burning like a normal fire, spreading warmth, light, and the pleasant smell of smoke throughout the villa.

She sat down in an armchair by the fire and let the heat sink into her. She rested her elbows on the armrests, and one of them bumped something. It was the package from the old man in the Seer's Library, sitting on a tall, narrow, round table just next to the armchair. She neglected to open it when she got back to her villa, opting to go straight to bed, being so emotionally worn out from that evening.

She lifted it off the table and placed it on her lap; it was fairly light. She undid the string tying it closed and pulled the brown paper wrapping from the top of the gift. It was a box, it seemed. Lifting off the lid, and sifting through even more packaging paper, she found something she would  never have expected to receive as a gift from a stranger: a gas mask, just like the ones she remembered using back on Earth, just like she wanted...

Krista spent quite a while trying to think of how the old man even knew that she wanted this, since that was a detail she left out when she told him what she had been through. She questioned how he even had a gift to give her despite it being their first and only meeting, but considering that he seemed to be able to conjure things out of a story, and later, an armchair out of the ceiling, she decided to let that go. But the mask... she was sure she didn't tell him. Perhaps there was something otherworldly about the mysterious cloaked old man who could conjure story elements and furniture from nothing.

Each theory she thought of seemed less and less likely, so she resigned to ask him how he knew, should she ever meet him again, and tried the mask on. It fit well, and seemed comfortable; the black, rubbery fabric of the mask conformed to the shape of her face and the red eyepieces lined up well. The straps tightened easily without pinching her hair, and the air filter didn't seem too cumbersome. But sitting there in the near silence of her home, she thought she should have asked for something else. She couldn't imagine herself strapping this on every time she had to fly, let alone with company; it just wasn't practical. Her sigh came out louder through the mask's filter as she undid the straps and took the mask off.

"Maybe I'm being selfish." She said, turning the mask over in her hands. It was still a wonderful relic from her life on Earth, even if it wasn't as practical as she first thought. She put it on the table beside her chair before scrunching up the packing paper and throwing it into the fire. She stared at the paper as glowing orange spread across the surface, forcing the ball to contort and leaving behind black ashes in its wake. When the black, frail husk finally collapsed she looked down at her lap and watched the colour spots dance across the bottom face of the empty box that sat there, nestled in a flower of brown wrapping paper. It suddenly occurred to her that the box was unusually shallow; it was only half as thick as the entire wrapped package. She lifted out the box, revealing the other half of the gift's bulk: a large book, bound in black leather and a rigid metal frame that formed a hinge along the book's spine, and was locked shut by a clasp on the centre of the front cover. Welded onto the frame above and below the clasp, thick metal letters spelled the title.

The Transforming Arts

Spells and Practises for the new Wraith

Krista picked up the book, taking in its almost intimidating design. The clasp on the front was more like an intricate, circular lock than anything else, but it didn't appear to have any kind of keyhole or other sort of interface. She ran her fingers along the dull grey metal sealing the tome shut, eventually coming to the clasp. As her fingers made contact, the book suddenly shuddered.

Krista dropped the book as if it burned her, crumpling against the wrapping paper on her lap. A hemispherical panel set into the centre of the clasp rolled up, revealing a small, bloodshot eye with a silver iris. It rolled from side to side before orienting towards Krista. She stared back at it in almost fright, locking her gaze with the book's. Just when Krista thought that pushing the book away might be a good idea, its eye turned away and began slowly looking in random directions. Three thin rods emerged from the perimeter of the clasp and spun anti-clockwise like the blades of a propeller. The very moment they reached a full revolution, the book shut its metallic eyelid, and the clasp unlocked, releasing the tab that held it shut with a loud click.

The fire crackled away as Krista stared at the book, unmoving. She didn't know if she should pick it up to read or throw it into the fireplace. She had never seen anything do that in Sentain, or anywhere else, for that matter. For all she really knew about it, the tome could be some sort of device of espionage, with that staring eye. However as time ticked by, she let curiosity outweigh caution, and picked up the book. The eye didn't open again. Folding back the front cover on its hinge, she began to skim through some of the book's contents. As the pages flipped by and she got further into the book, the practices it taught became increasingly advanced. By about halfway, she was looking at terribly powerful magic, far beyond the scope of anything she learned in training. She even wondered if any of the practices were illegal in Sentain.

Towards the end, a flash of red darted across the book as Krista continued to flip through the pages. She stopped and backtracked to a page that was marked with a large bookmark made of red cloth. It was the title page of a chapter with a name that assured Krista that Sentain authorities would not want her to possess the book.

On creating and accessing pocket dimensions

Krista quickly read through the first few paragraphs of the chapter, curious as to why the Storyteller would mark it. It explained the basic properties of a universe, how bridges between them could function, and promised Krista that with the right preparation and spells, she could create her own private Domain.

"No." Krista muttered, slamming the book shut. It opened its eye to check that it was she who closed it. The tab connected to the back cover inserted itself into the clasp, the three rods turned back the other way, and withdrew back into the clasp, locking it. The eye closed.
"Zese are... poisonous practises." She said, holding the book out in front of her. "I should not be reading zese; zey vill plant treacherous ideas... dangerous thoughts."

Krista envisioned what could happen if she were to let these ideas take root. She could become corrupted, using the advanced practises for her own gain. She would become a rogue, betraying Sentain to pursue her own power.

"Zey vill make a traitor out of me..." She asserted. "Like zat traitor angel."
She went to place the book on the table beside her, and in doing so, freed the hand that held the red bookmark. At least, she thought it was a bookmark. As she got a better look at it, she spotted a very familiar black and white emblem — identical to the one that hung over her bed — stitched into one side of what was actually a loop of fabric.

Krista boggled at the sight of the armband. Now this the Storyteller would have known about. She dropped the book onto her lap to inspect the armband properly. It wasn't the same armband that she lost, she could tell, but it was nearly identical. If anything, it looked even better, with vivid colours and superb stitching. She beamed as she ran her fingers over the smooth cotton, incredibly happy that she had a replacement.

The sound of someone approaching the front door of her villa made Krista jump and turn to face it; she was still in possession of a book that could very well be outlawed in Sentain. The person at the door didn't knock or call out, but rather put something down before apparently leaving. She put the book and armband on the table beside her and cautiously got up from the armchair, walked to the front door, and slowly opened it. Cold morning air chilled Krista, right through her dressing gown, as the sun had not risen yet. However Krista had been left a parcel: her clothes had been returned from being cleaned and repaired. She took them inside and changed into them in front of the fireplace. It was nearly dawn, so she should get dressed for the day. She would be expected to meet with Cosmac at the Seer's Library, as well.

Suitably dressed, she lifted up the book from the table to pick up the armband underneath. With one gift in either hand, she held them out in front of her. She started to question her earlier thoughts on the book, all of a sudden, unsure of what to think or do about it.

The book could be dangerous, to both her and Sentain, if she allowed herself to indulge in its advanced practises. She could destroy it now, or hand it in to someone of greater authority. She gripped her armband a little tighter.

But Krista couldn't bring herself to totally commit to the idea. The book was a gift, given generously with two others that were completely beneficial to her in one way or another. She didn't know for sure that the practises inside were illegal, even if they were beyond her skill level. It could be used as a tool to advance her level of skill as a Wraith, which would be necessary, considering the threats she and her team would no doubt face. There were even some practises she saw that she wanted to try herself.

Eventually, Krista decided that there was no point destroying the book if she didn't know for sure that it was dangerous, and until she did, she would use it to learn new skills and enhance her own potential. She put the book back down on the table and slipped her armband on. She would have to leave soon. She went through the dining room to the kitchen and prepared a quick breakfast of jam on toast, before taking her nightie, dressing gown and slippers back into her bedroom and making her bed. While there, she picked up her pistols and clipped them onto her belt.

As she left her bedroom, she saw the spell book and gas mask lying on the table. She had planned on leaving them behind, but the more she thought about it, the better an idea it seemed to take them with her. After all, they could end up being very useful. She tucked the spell book under one arm and picked up the gas mask, then left her villa. The fire would burn throughout the day, heating up the water tank in the roof above for when she returned.

The air outside was still cool and crisp, but it was definitely lighter outside with the sun barely breaching the horizon. Krista fit the gas mask on once again and tightened the straps, clutched the spell book close to her chest, unfurled her wings, and launched herself into the air, where the sunlight waited. She took off towards the Seer's Library, feeling the wind rush past her but leaving her face completely comfortable. She cracked a smile under the mask, pumping her wings to fly faster and faster, until she was travelling at near sonic speeds. If she did more of this, she'd definitely make the mask a permanent addition to her equipment. As she neared the library, she arced backwards and soared straight up into the air, letting gravity take her speed away. Almost a kilometre above the ground, she finally came to a gradual halt. For just a moment, everything seemed to stop. In that instant of serenity she could see out in all directions, over Sentain's magnificent architecture, where the sun's rays were touching the tops of the tall towers. She saw the world turn upside down as her weightless body looped backwards, before she tucked in her wings and entered a vertical nose-dive. She stared gravity in the face through her mask's red eyepieces as the ground rushed up to meet her. A hundred metres from the stone pavement outside the library, she quickly tumbled forwards to slow her fall and spread her wings. They filled with air with a loud thoomp, almost completely arresting her fall, and threatening to tear the book out of her grip. She glided the rest of the way down, finally landing on quivering legs. She transferred the book to one arm to undo the straps on her mask. When it came off, the sound of her laughter sang through the air. She resigned to do that more often.

Malus would've started screaming at this point, if he'd wanted to alert the neighbouring saintlies. Instead, he collapsed to the floor in desperation, his body shaking with fret. How could he possibly hide two bodies in his small-ass house? even if he could, they'd stink up the place. People would find out. They'd have his head, probably roasted over a spit and served with a side of sarmale...
Shift the blame.
His thoughts were interrupted by the same scratching sensation on his forehead as before. He looked to his whip, who seemed to he motioning toward the hole in the roof. He looked up with realisation, giving him courage to get to his feet. The crime scene hasn't been discovered yet, and if he worked fast he could clear his involvment. It's a shame it was going to cost him his new resin thatch-job, but he was running out of options. First, he snuck into the bathroom and began running some water, he'd need it afterwards. Then he grabbed the unstabbed body, and began to quietly bring it outside, pulling it onto the roof...

---------

When Malus arrived at the interrogation facility, he looked like a mess. His pelt was unevenly spiked up in ramdom places, his face was a blank slate, and he smelled like a wet dog. He had all his usual gear on, but it was obvious he'd rushed when he put them on (noteably, one of his spaulders was upside down). As he stepped through the doorway, he noticed Cosmac was waiting.

"b-ba-So-Sorry I'm late!" He bleated, stumbling with his words. "These two angel blokes was 'aving a bloody fight right outside m'house! They even tore down m'roof an'stabbed eachother with MY property! Now I got a broken house and two dead idiots stuck to it" he continued as he found himself a seat. "T'least the messenger promised me he'd report the losses. I can't really fix everything on m'own." He sighed.

"....ba-But 'nougth bout me, what's the deal with this captain chick?" he asked anxiously.

"-GAAH!"

Cosmac was startled as Malus burst through the doorway in such a state. He had been so focused assembling his shotgun that he'd completely blanked out. Somehow, he looked more intimidating than he did in the thick of battle, and for Cosmac, that really meant something.

"Ahg, Malus, you scared the crap outta me. The... eh- Captain we captured is in that room over there." He pointed to the closed door at the end of the hallway.

Staine should be meeting up with us in a couple minutes, we just have to wait for Krista, and we're set. Almost mid-speech, laughter pierced the dead silence of the Library, as well as the Interrogation facility. At first, Cosmac dismissed the laughter, but as it went on, he recognized the voice. That was Krista! Almost jumping out of the bench, Cosmac made his way towards the Library's entrance.

"Well, speak of the devil." he smirked.

As he made his way towards Krista, following the laughter, he found her acting quite differently to the Krista he'd met, and breathed in relief.

"And here I thought you were as stone-cold as ol' Aulair. Thank god for that. What's got you so excited?" He approached her, glancing at the book in her hands, thinking to himself how excited someone could be about reading.

Malus felt kinda guilty for spooking Cosmac, but it was better than him having doubts about his story. That would be awkward. Sighing, he leant against the wall in an attempt to calm himself. He wasn't really in the mood to meet Krista again right now, not while he was still worried about consequences. While waiting, he took the time to further question the nature of his medallion. Could this rock really be responsible for the deaths of others, and through his own hands? Why is he still wearing it after being involved with such things? Was be becoming a victim of such a lust for power that he was willing to overlook the possibility of his newfound ability becoming his own downfall? Why was he now chewing on it while questioning this?

Realising his thoughts weren't getting anywhere, he pulled the rock from his mouth. and rubbed his face in bemusement. This kind of thinking wasn't his forté. He felt kinda lightheaded. His mind was swirling so much now, he swore he could hear things entering his head out of the dark...

Krista calmed down as the Russian cosmonaut approached her.
"Just finding new joy in flying, zat's all..." She said, hooking the gas mask onto her belt. A smile remained on her face until she remembered their duty. She cleared her throat and stood up a little straighter.
"Vat have you been able to extract from ze traitor angel?" She inquired with a more serious tone, heading into the interrogation facility with Cosmac, carrying her book by her side. "And vat of her mechanical suit? Has zat been examined?"

As they entered the facility, Krista's nose wrinkled at the odour of wet animal, and she quickly guessed its source before she spied it. She wasn't sure which she preferred the least — wet Malus or dry Malus; either stank in their own right. She considered putting the gas mask on again.
"I see you've decided to bathe, Malus." Krista observed, looking him up and down. Judging by how rushed the effort seemed, Krista considered that maybe he hadn't bathed; he could have just been thrown into a trough on the way to the library.

"Well, Aulair's in there right now, but I don't think he's got any information out of her. The bad thing about this situation is that she's a Saintly angel. If Aulair does anything too harsh, a Sentain angel hurting a Saintly isn't going to do much good when the word gets out, traitor or not." He sighed.

"And vat of her mechanical suit? Has zat been examined?"

"Well, we busted it up pretty badly, but we were able to salvage an intact data core off of it. It's all encrypted, so I guess the Seers are still trying to crack the code. That's probably why we're right beside their playground." He nudged his head in the direction of the Library. "I'm sure they're having loads of fun with that tedious job."

Aulair could be heard raising his voice in the interrogation room as Krista remarked about Malus's state. The halls muffled Aulair's words, but from his tone, he obviously had enough with the traitor's lack of cooperation. Soon, he burst through the door of the room, briefly raising his hand to greet Malus and Krista before exiting the building and flying off.

"Hm, I wonder where he's going." Cosmac stared as Aulair disappeared into the distance. I'm going to check up on the prisoner, tell me when Staine arrives, will you?" With that, he sped off to the interrogation room. Upon opening the soundproofed door, a firm, Irish voice filled the hallway.

Standing in the interrogation room across from the traitor was the Saintly angel called Aodha. He was a broad shouldered figure in heavy armor. On his back was a polearm with blades almost half as tall as he is, with segments indicating that it was telescopic. Beside the polearm was a crossbow, with a large “magazine” of bolts, indicating that its contents were also large. Each word Aodha spoke had a notable Irish accent; however it was not thick enough to make his words difficult to understand. His armor was shaped in a way that would make it look almost like a dragon at a passing glance.

"Now, let me make this clear to you lass, because I don't think you were listening before." Aodha began, cutting off the traitor's previous statement of the power of the Regnant fleets. "I have been: cooked alive in my armor, trampled, sliced to ribbons, impaled, nearly died of fright, poisoned, suffocated on all the smoke from those beasts’ flames, turned into an ice statue, had almost an entire base’s worth of rubble dropped on me after being dragged across the battlefield’s ground, and more.” Aodha said, crossing his arms. "Nothing you or your cronies can throw at me will scare me- oh wait- your former cronies."

Aodha turned his head towards the door once Cosmac entered, “Hello.” He moved closer to his fellow Saintly and lowered his voice. “I’m tellin’ you lad, she’s not giving any ground in this attempt to get her to tell us what she knows.” He gave a quick, exasperated laugh “I’m thinking that her giving up the secrets is about as likely as an Akaban rolling over and letting you give it a tummy rub.” He moved back a little and raised his voice, probably to make sure the traitor heard what he was going to say next. “However, because Aulair no longer here, I can use a little physical persuasion,” he paused to loudly crack his knuckles, “because I’m acting by my own will.” He turned his gaze towards the traitor; the irritation in his eyes could be felt through his helmet.

Cosmac raised his eyebrows at Aodha. This is exactly what he was afraid of, only on a much smaller scale; Instead of Aulair directly beating the traitor, his accomplice offered to do it for him. He clearly needed someone else in there if he was to get any information out of this-

Cosmac had an idea. He hastily opened the door before briefly smirking at the traitor, who was, at this time, had no idea who was about to join them in the small, cold interrogation facility.

After poking his head out, he closed the door again to speak to this Aodha.

"Winghunter, come with me for a minute. I think we need to give her a little... alone time for now. Why don't you come and wait for Staine with us?" He ushered him quickly out of the room, and closed the door firmly behind him.

"I don't think she'll be silent after we bring her in." He poked his eyes towards Krista.

"Krista!" he called to get her attention, then made a nudging motion with his head towards the door. He looked like he really wanted to get Krista in the room.

Krista turned at the sound of her name, having not expected to be called upon for the interrogation. If Aulair, Cosmac, and now a third angel, needed her help to get information out of the traitor, then the situation couldn't have been hopeful. She wasn't sure how much help she could be of in getting the traitor Paladin to talk, but she knew that she would not be happy to see her, and that might be their only advantage. She walked briskly down the hallway with her new book in her arms, passing by Cosmac, and entered the interrogation room.

The first thing she noticed about the room was that it was far colder than the hallway just outside. The second was that it was very small, compared to the spacious rooms that Paradisa usually sported. The walls were bare, and coloured a dull off-white that seemed to make the room colder. A bare rectangular table took up the centre of the room, guarded on two sides by a pair of chairs, with the Regnant Paladin in the one opposite Krista. Her expression was resolutely stone-faced, indicative of her will to remain silent and unreadable. However it was not without its taxes. Her wounds from the day prior were still present, and the undersides of her eyes were dark. It looked like she was making a valiant effort to keep her eyes open.

Krista closed the door behind her, walked over to the table, and set her book down on it with a metallic klack, before looking up to make eye contact with the captive.
"I hear zey have been interrogating you all night." She said. "It looks like it, too."
She pulled the chair out from under the table, but didn't sit down in it.
"It also looks like you vere not recovered from our little clash yesterday. You must be tired."
Krista didn't wait for a response from the captive to start muttering a short incantation in German. The Paladin opposite her began to emit a soft glow as the basic healing spell took effect, leaving her cuts and bruises almost completely healed. However the spell also had the effect of giving the Paladin something like an energy boost, making her feel well rested and revitalised.

"Feel better?" Krista asked genuinely. Her gaze was not demanding, but just inquisitive. Answered or not, she lifted her hand palm up and began to recite the same spell she used to light her fireplace. A magic circle appeared in the corner of the room behind her, spun rapidly, and shattered into a bright, orange fireball. It burned intensely for about a second before dissipating, filling the small room with heat. It was more so for Krista's comfort than the captive's, but if she could make her more comfortable, she might be more inclined to let her guard down.

"Zat's better, isn't it?" Krista remarked, sitting down in the chair opposite the Paladin. She looked her square in the eyes for a while, thinking through her first question — how she would start her approach.
"Let's start viz your name." She decided. "I vouldn't put it past zose ozer men to ask it of you. Zey haven't said anything of your name so far."

Malus was focusing too much on his necklace to care about what was going on right now. The only real reason why he'd brought it was to see if this traitor gal knew anything about it. Hopefully he'd get a chance to have a 'chat' with her privately later on, after everyone else went about whatever their business with her was. As he watched for the results of any recent findings, he suddenly took notice of the saintly coming out of the interrogation room.

As Aodha entered the waiting hall, Malus turned a sharp eye to him. He stared at the new Winghunter with great disconcert. He shouldn't've felt this way about the presence of a fellow saintly, but this guy was tall. Way taller than he was. Plus his armor just looked wrong in his eyes, almost beastly. The various shiny, pokey things jutting out of his back weren't helping, either. He didn't know who this guy was, but something about this guy was just downright threatening to him.

As he pushed himself off the wall he was leaning on, Malus suddenly felt something off about himself, but he didn't really understand what. Maybe his footing is off? Maybe his timing wasn't right? He knew that if he wanted to charge this guy he'd need to do it correctly. He fidgeted around on his hooves, bent forward, bared his horns, and...
No.
...Something held him back.
You savage, you're living as a saintly, you'd better bloody well act like it.
He just can't ram this guy without warning, could he?

Malus slowly began to upright himself, and looked back at the would-be target. He still hadn't noticed him, luckily. Malus stared at Aodha for a few more moments, unsure of what else to do. After a while, he spoke, albeit with a slight sense of nerve in his voice.

"...So. Who are y'e, then?" Malus grumbled, locking him in his sight.

At first, the Captain stayed completely still, eyes fixated on the table separating them. Once Krista sat down, however, she glanced upward, then down, then back up again as if she didn't believe her eyes the first time she'd looked. There sat the same nurse who'd raided her ship, only this time she looked much cleaner. She'd been covered in Regnant blood earlier. The Captain looked at her square in the eyes now, like how Krista was, only her gaze seemed more intense. Her eyes seemed to cut right through Krista, not darting back and forth between her eyes like most would, but rather looking straight at the center of her vision to form an unsettling, unblinking, unfaltering stare. She obviously had some strong feelings about the death of her crew. The Captain had been stripped from her combat armor, leaving only a plain white jumpsuit that completely covered her hands and bound her wings together in a metallic tray on her back. It looked like something that would bond an insane person.

"My name?" She adjusted her pant legs as she attempted to release her tightly bound wings. "You all have named me a lot of things. I've been called Traitor, Hellspawn Sympathizer, all kinds of unflattering titles, what's it to you?" She sat backward into her chair, relaxing her arms. "It's Seren." She uttered under her breath, staring intently into Krista's eyes, wondering what she, of all the people she'd met today would want from her.

Krista remained resolute in the face of the paladin's intense stare, keeping her gaze calm. She had to remain in control of the situation if she were to succeed. She could not afford to seem offended or put off by the captive's expression. When she did respond to Krista's question, she feared that she had taken the wrong approach and put her on the defensive. However, when she sat back and muttered her name, Krista smiled. She almost regretted it and immediately softened it into a simple warm expression.

I must not let her see my reaction. Krista thought. I cannot let her think she has control here.
"Seren..." Krista mused. "Zat is a nice name."
She took a moment to think about how she would answer her.
"Vell, Seren, I'm not concerned about your place in ze enemy's army or vat it's plans are. Obviously, zat is vat ze ozer men are interested in. Ven zey see you zey see an enemy to demand information from. I'm more concerned about you."

Seren raised her eyebrows. "Well, that's new. What are you concerned about?" She inquired. "Is it about my suit? Or my time with the Regnants?"

If Krista permitted herself, she would have cracked a wider smile. Seren was starting to let her guard down.
"You seem to value your allegiance more zan yourself. I can admire zat devotion. Hovever, I can't see vhy you made your allegiance viz ze Hellspawn, against Sentain. Vhat could have made you vant to leave paradise and turn yourself against it?"

Krista glanced fleetingly at her book.

"Could it have been promises of power, or perhaps you vere being held back from your full potential?"

Seren looked at Krista in confusion at first, then nodded when she remembered her rank.

"I can understand why you'd think that. I- uh... Wasn't exactly powerful when I was with you guys. But I didn't join them for the power, I joined because I caught a glimpse of one of the projects they were working on, and I offered my help in exchange for uh-"

She quickly remembered why she was here and quickly closed her mouth.

"But I guess that's not important." She dipped her eyes toward the floor, knowing what came out of her mouth, then she offered Krista something, "Listen, this project we're working on is very important to me. I never meant to harm any of you, I just want to make sure that nothing wrong goes on with it. I'm not going to tell you where it is, if I do, they'll destroy it like how they did with my stashes..."

She angrily referred to the Regnants who manned the large battleship they saw earlier.

Krista was taken aback by Seren's forthcomingness. She hadn't expected her to suddenly offer so much information. She tried her best to hide it, but she had slipped, even just for a split second. She hoped Seren didn't see it, but since she exchange was no longer walking a razor's edge it was all too possible that it didn't matter if she did. She seemed to have looked down anyway, so she may well have missed Krista's slip-up.

Naturally, Krista's thoughts were devoted entirely to this project of Seren's. That it caused her to defect was a scary thought for Krista — how easy would it be for her to turn against Sentain if something in her book required it? Other questions swam around her head, like why she would want to help, and what she asked for in return. However, her last words echoed above all the questions: "But I guess that's not important." Krista had to agree with them.
Whatever she asked for, she no longer has it. Thought Krista. She no longer has anything.

"Listen, this project we're working on is very important to me." Seren continued.

Now she's telling what she wants? She must know she's giving me leverage!

"I never meant to harm any of you," Seren went on, "I just want to make sure that nothing wrong goes on with it. I'm not going to tell you where it is, if I do, they'll destroy it like how they did with my stashes..."

Krista put her elbows on the table, knitted her hands together, rested her chin on them and looked down at the table. She deliberately tried to appear as if she were mulling the situation over.
There! The Hellspawn are a threat to her project. If I can drive a wedge between it and them, I might turn her against them.

"Yes, it's a shame zey vere destroyed." Krista said, looking back up at Seren. "You had put togezer qvite a collection. I honestly don't see vhy zey had to be destroyed, eizer. Surely it's no secret zat ze Akaban collect veapons? But you could tell me vhere your project is. How vould zey know to destroy it if you did?"

Krista saw she was making good progress; more than the other Saintlies, at least. She couldn't let the exchange become sidetracked — she had leverage, now she had to use it.

"Zis... project- vherever it is," she quickly defended, "Vhat does it aim to do?"

Seren frowned. What could this possibly matter to her? She wasn't afraid of what the Sentain Angels would do, but if this psychotic nurse and her almost-completely-Saintly squad were to get involved, the whole project could collapse in on itself. She seemed to agree with her on some points though, so maybe there was some hope. Maybe she could see things from her perspective, seeing as how she seemed to agree with her this whole time...

She hesitated for a couple seconds, but she eventually decided to speak. "It's like a Saintification device, only without the Saintification part..." She smiled, staring into Krista's eyes. "You know how Soul Essence holds the- ...well, soul... of a human being, dormant in an unconscious limbo? Well, with the Regnant's help, I found a way to let them keep a human body, free from needing an artificial halo."  She then continued, using her uncomfortable hand restraints to brush her black hair to the side.. "It basically revives a human as a human instead of a Saintly."She examined Krista's face for signs of interest in the project she described.

"This is very, very important to me, nurse. I'd be willing to give up some alternative information to protect this project. Of course, only if you're interested, Miss... -what's your name?"

-------

The awkward silence of the hallway was soon interrupted by Cosmac, who was staring out of the hallway's single window, aimed at the entryway of the interrogation facility.

"Guys, there looks like there's someone coming towards us, should we check it out?" He asked as he eyed a couple angels walking towards the entrance.

These didn't look like Aulair or Staine, their armor looked plain compared to what the two of them would've worn; simple plates with cloth pants and arms, with simple, matching face masks with dome-styled helmets covering their faces. The two angels entered the building and proceeded towards the hallway, one of them holding a folding table, and the other holding a small, metal plate. The one holding the table was noticeably taller than everyone else, and they both opted to levitate using their halos rather than walking normally, confirming that they were not Aulair and Staine, but a pair of Seers.

The taller one spoke.

"You must be the Tride's squad. General's got a message for you."

The shorter angel landed in front of Cosmac while the taller angel set up his small table.

"The General is busy with matters regarding his direct victory over Lucifer yesterday, and he apologizes for not meeting you in person. Aegius himself is having a discussion with him as we speak about his role in the military. Very important matters, I'm sure of it."

Cosmac seemed shocked.

"He beat Lucifer? Holy sh- wait, whaddya mean, 'direct victory' did he, like, kill him? That's unbelievable!" The Seer sighed in response.

"Sadly, no, he only drew a little of his blood in a one-on-one duel. Lucifer ran away like a coward. Doesn't seem like something he'd do, he usually fights till-"

The tall one interrupted him, wanting him to put his plate on the table he'd set up.

"Excuse me, one moment." he responded as he gave the tall one the plate he was holding. As he set it down, it glowed a bright blue, and produced a three-dimensional image of Staine's helmet. After a while, the helmet changed to a figure of Staine himself, and began to speak.

"This message is directed to Aulair and his Saintly squad. I've made this message to congratulate you on your first successful mission, and to give you a new one. I've already told Aulair the details, but the mission will begin once we get the traitor to talk."

---
TOUR 2, RANGER RAID, BEGINS
---

"The Regnants are getting a little more bold in their attacks, and they're getting a little closer than we'd like towards our territory. We've already sent some larger groups to push them back, but with those battleships they have, we aren't going to do much without some heavy casualties on our side. Now, we already have a small portion of Regnant territory mapped out, but we don't know where their core bases are. That's where your Captain friend comes in, since you captured her alive, this will go a lot easier than it would've been. Now, we've salvaged some navigation settings on her mechanical suit, but they aren't labeled. There's hundreds of coordinates on that thing, and most of them trace out to areas we haven't scouted yet. Once you get her to reveal one of the more important coordinates, Aulair will plan an attack on it. However, I know you aren't a large force, so we'll take it slow and try to target something on the outer rim of their territory if possible. We wouldn't want you captured by Regnants yourselves, you're too important for that. Wherever you choose to attack, I'll have a platoon of around 60 angels to distract the bulk of the Regnants in the area so that you can move in without too much resistance. Once you're in, don't destroy anything, just scout the area out and report anything important back to the offensive platoon. They can handle the rest. Anything that needs to be changed can be discussed with Aulair. He knows he's in for a real leadership role. One more thing, Aulair's going to give you some armor and halo upgrades before we start this mission, just in case anything goes wrong. Alright, this is General Staine, closing message."

The device snapped to the same image of Staine's helmet before the short Seer removed the plate from the table.

"I hope we can meet again later. Have fun on your recon mission, now." He sarcastically said before leaving the building.

Cosmac eyed Aodha. "Well, a recon job's not the most exciting thing in the world, now is it? I was hoping for a guns blazing approach with the 60-man platoon, myself."

Aodha sighed as he was told to leave the interrogation room, "Fine" he said sharply. He left the room as soon as Cosmac opened the door. He raised an eyebrow at the mention of a "her" and was about to ask who he was talking about before he saw a women fly past them. "How the bloody hell is this short lady going to be more effective at getting the facts out than big, scary me?" Aodha thought, " Well for one thing, she's not short, you're just tall."

They neared the are where the rest of the squad was wait, Aodha saw something moving out of the corner of his vision. Turning around, he saw the rather strange body for Malus. This was one of the times Aodha was glad his helmet covered his face, as his eyes nearly bugged out of his head at the sight of this man-goat thing in front of him.

"...So. Who are y'e, then?"

Shaking himself out of his minor shock, Aodha responded as quickly as Malus had asked "Aodha." He then waited for something that wasn't him or Malus to break the, admittedly awkward, silence. Thankfully, something did do just that. Aodha listened to the mission that Holo-Staine had given them.

"Well, a recon job's not the most exciting thing in the world, now is it? I was hoping for a guns blazing approach with the 60-man platoon, myself."

"Your idea sounds more fun, but I'm fine if I just get to bust a few Regnant heads myself." Aodha responded to Cosmac. "And sense it looks like I'm on your team now" he began, turning to Malus "What your name? I can't go around callin' you goat man and the like."

Malus really didn't want to communicate with this giant red beastly guy, but it looked like he'd have to make some effort. He pulled out his trusted Mead bottle, took a swig, then spoke.

"...E'ryone calls me Malus. I guess y'can too, since we're stuck together fer this mission" Malus said with a feeling of apprehension. He dicided that, as long as he could concentrate more into bashing enemy skulls, he would be able to ignore him. Thusly, he quickly turned his attention away from the Aodha, and instead started to speak to Cosmac.

"So, what's the plan, wing-man?" he sneered. He was hoping that he'd have something interesting to say, or Krista will be back soon with some more news about the hostage. He hadn't really paid as much attention to Staine's hologram message as he should've.

Seren's frown gave Krista the impression that perhaps she had asked the wrong question. This project might have been the only way to coax Seren into cooperating with Sentain authorities. Krista tried very hard to hide how much she worried about messing that up.

Needless to say, when Seren defied Krista's fears and told her about the project, she was incredibly relieved. She fought to keep a satisfied grin off her face, but when Seren looked intensely into her eyes and smiled at her, she couldn't help it, and let the smile out in return. Although she was perplexed by Seren's expression.

As Seren continued to explain what her project did, Krista's face began to show her interest in the cause, but then it became a look of concern. It was a simple idea, and not a bad one at that; Krista was relieved that it wasn't something downright amoral or detrimental to Sentain. However, the Regnants had obviously started this project to build their own army from Earth's Soul Essence to match against Sentain's, which was worrying. Now that Krista knew what it was, she could negotiate a bargain. Seren, it seemed, already understood the terms of the agreement.

"This is very, very important to me, nurse. I'd be willing to give up some alternative information to protect this project. Of course, only if you're interested, Miss... -what's your name?"

"Krista." She answered. She thought carefully about the circumstances at hand, and spurred by Seren, brushed some of her own white, wavy hair behind her ear.

"Vell, Seren, I am interested in zis project of yours. I vould like to offer to protect it, in exchange for any information you have to give."

She let Seren take in the success of her plight for a few moments, before giving her a more serious look and adding:
"But I don't think zat is going to vork."

Seren understandably would have been upset to hear this. Krista went on.
"How can ve protect something zat is so unsafe ze vay it already is? You saw vhat ze Hellspawn did to your veapon stashes vhen zey vere discovered. Zis project is unsafe viz zem.

"Ze data core from your mechanical suit is being examined by Seers in ze library right now. Soon zey vill find out vhere your project is, and zey vill look for it. Ve know vhat vill happen as a result. Not to mention, viz you captured, ze Hellspawn vill probably not be able to continue viz it, and destroy it to be safe."

Krista paused to let the situation sink in, but she didn't want Seren to despair, or she might lose her cooperation. She leaned forward and put her hand on the table, closer to Seren.

"But it can be safe, Seren. I could arrange for your project to be carried out in Sentain. You could return, and vork on it vizout being treated as an enemy, vizout being attacked by squads like mine, and vizout ze Hellspawn ready to destroy it. Do you find zis agreeable?"
