Welcome to New Syracuse: a city of towering skyscrapers and bustling streets, of lights, sounds, smells and tastes home to all the manifold niches of the human race — from the beautiful and glamorous, the rich, the poor to the ostracised and alienated. From the gleaming peaks of the business sector's spires to the rusting dockyards it is every inch a city of the early 21st century, and within its bounds of steel and glass and concrete something new is stirring. The people and authorities of New Syracuse are beginning to wake up to the existence of the supernatural: beings and people possessing strange and often dangerous abilities, people with the power to change the world as we know it... or bring it crashing down about our heads.
This is a superpowers RP set in the modern-era city of New Syracuse; a city on the coast of America. The power your character wields is selected at random by clicking this link. How you interpret the contents of the page you're taken to is down to you: you aren't obliged to manifest the ability described to the letter.
For example, a player rolling Canine Physiology may have as many or as few elements of said physiology as they like — perhaps they have sharper senses, tracking abilities and speed but look completely human, or perhaps they're a full-blown manbeast; perhaps they're stuck in their form permanently, or perhaps they can switch at will — or against their will, if you wanna go the full werewolf.
Of course, if you get something you feel really doesn't work, feel free to take another random page — if you're rolling more than three times, though, you're either very unlucky or not thinking things through. :Razz:Using random powers is designed to give you an interesting challenge as an RPer, or maybe present you with the basis for a character you might not have expected. Is your character a spandex-clad hero waging war on crime from their secret high-tech base? A troubled anti-hero struggling with their inner demons and the fact that they don't have anything to wear since turning into the Human Torch? Have they only just discovered their powers, and so far used them only to teleport into ladies' restrooms while yelling "Yatta"
? Or are they a villain? Rules
—All the usual rules of roleplaying apply here — no godmodding or controlling other people's characters without their consent please, or I'll murder you.
—All Roleplaying should take place on the IC thread, once your character sheet has been accepted, and all out of character discussion should ideally take place here — if you feel the need to insert out-of-character information into the IC, please enclose it in ((double brackets)).
—To join, please fill in the character sheet below and post it on this thread. When it has been accepted, you are free to begin posting on the IC at any time!
—In combat, anything without a character sheet is fair game as far as insta-hits and kills are concerned.
—Tags and Frags: Each character begins the game with five 'tags' and three 'frags', which represent health and lives respectively. When another character hits you (insta-hits are the order of the day here, but the action taken must make sense) you lose one tag
. When your tag count reaches zero, you lose a frag
and your character falls unconscious or otherwise becomes unable to move or take part in combat. They can then get back up and re-join the fray with another five tags as soon as you like, but once your frag count reaches zero, your character dies
——At the end of a fight, your tag
count is restored to five.
——A single lost frag
is restored by receiving medical treatment or resting at the end of a day.
——Keep track of the tags and frags of your own character and those of your target at the bottom of any post you make where either of these things changes, preferably in the form: [tags]/[frags] e.g: a character will begin at "5/3", and on taking a hit this would change to: "4/3".
—Number of characters: Two character sheets per player, but feel free to create as many disposable NPC's as suit your needs. If you think this limit should be tightened / loosened, speak now!
—Given the nature of many powers, the 'no godmodding' rule might get a bit blurry: please try to keep things internally consistent and realistic (insofar as a relatively light-hearted superhero RP can manage) when doing anything significant.

Age: Unknown, Falls from space at the beginning of the RP.
Power: Angelic Physiology (Flight, Weapon Manifestation, Super Strength, Supernatural Condition, Enhanced Combat)
Bio: A loyal angel born into the world of man, Seraph is a relatively average warrior to angelic standards, but almost a one-man army when compared to humankind. He was sent to New Syracuse with a small task; to purge the world from a variety of upcoming 'sinful' events. They sent with him his favored weapons, which include a bladed lance, a small Kite Shield and can manifest grappling hooks out of his palms in combat, effective up to around 40 feet. While powerful, Seraph, like most other angels, is only trained to fight demons and Hellspawn, not humans. At his best, he's an obedient, effective and fully capable fighter and strategist, but at his worst, he's cocky, gullible, and cruel.
Name: Tobias Thule
Power: Voice Manipulation
Bio: Tobias was one who always doing voices. He never knew though, that he had the Voice Manipulation, until rather recently. He's used his power to stop a Terrorist attack, and other stuff. He's also learned several forms of martial arts, and he's very stealthy.
Name: Ellen Hazell
Power: Party Inducement
Bio: Ellen's birthday parties, were always, a bit raucous, I guess you could say. Usually the cake ended up defying physics and ending up on the ceiling. Because someone threw it there. Ellen never really noticed, she was always kicking a** at Just Dance 3. But it wasn't until she turned 19, that she started realizing that she could induce parties. She figured out how to use them for a somewhat ineffective crime fighting system. Just make them drunk and tie them up. It usually works. She also makes them start partying when she needs a quick escape.
Name: The Storyteller
Age: Unknown, considered ageless. He knows even the most ancient of tales.
Power: Subjective Reality (Make things of fantasy reality and vice versa; warp logic, law, time, space, truth, physical form; create links to alternate dimensions, etc)
Bio: The Storyteller is transcendental. While his apparel changes frequently, it is usually into an old style of clothing. He also consistently assumes the form of an old man.
He brings things out of fantasy and into the world of fact, and banishes real things to fantasy. If it has been written or told in a story in any way, he can make it real.
He warps the laws of physics into false ones, granting him the ability to change the way the world works. He often uses this to fly, but also change his physical form. He usually changes the laws back again, but he might leave them every now and again.
Power: Cartoon Physics
Bio: Jess started out life as a figment of a 5 year old girl's imagination. She was the child's imaginary friend. She was envisioned from the child's loneliness, as she had no other friends or siblings. Jess was created to act as an older sister to the young girl. The youngster drew many pictures of Jess in her scrapbooks, usually of her doing silly things such as goofing around with mallets and slipping on banana peels (this girl was heavily inspired by Tom & Jerry cartoons). One night, while the child was in bed she saw a shooting star, and wished that her friend would be real, so that they could play together. Somehow, her wish miraculously came true, and the girl woke up to find her friend sleeping on the floor, next to her bed. From then on, Jess and the girl spent nearly all their time together, and quickly, they had became best friends for life. Then, 2 years later, the child became diagnosed with cancer.
The child had to be permanently encased within the hospital's walls. Jess, not wanting to abandon her best friend, stayed by her side, placing herself on a seat next to the child's bed. She tried her best to keep the girl's spirits up, but it was of no use, as the girl lost the battle with her disease a few weeks later. Jess, without anyone to stay with or anywhere else to go, spent the next year living under the city bridge.
Notes: Personality-wise, Jess is kind and considerate, but can also be a sly trickster, more often out of fun than spite. She wears a large, blue backpack at all times, where she stores anything interesting she finds.
Name: Charlie Von-Guttenstine
Power: Weapon Proficiency
Bio: Charlie had a relatively normal childhood, and nothing was known about his superpower until he was sixteen years of age. One day, he was in a small shop when three thugs carrying guns walked in and demanded the cashier hand over all the store's money. Charlie grabbed a plastic baseball bat (out of what he would later describe to be "instinct") and beat the thugs senseless. The event confused Charlie, but he didn't think much of it until a second incident two years later, involving a golfing excursion that ended with him beating up a group of terrorists with a 9 iron. After research and experimentation with an assortment of weapons, Charlie came to the conclusion that he was naturally proficient in all types of weaponry. From then on, he began honing his physical skills to a perfection, so he would have the strength to keep up with his abilities.
Name: Stephanie Hark (Steph for short)
Power: Pheromone Manipulation
Bio: In elementary school, Stephanie was teased. But never by the same person twice. Unaware of her abilities, she put people who upset her into states of chemical imbalances. Sometimes the effects were harmless; she would occasionally befriend those who teased her. Sometimes they weren't so harmless; she caused three coughing fits and one lost student in a day. She doesn't disclose much information about her middle and high school years, though she has said that she has become "more in-tune with her powers" since those days.
Power: Gun manipulation/Metal manipulation
Bio: Eric was born in Russia during the end of the Cold War. He lived with a single mother and had a troubled childhood. Once the government found out of his metal manipulation, he was captured at the age of 10 and was raised in a laboratorium in his later childhood. Fleeing the lab at the age of 19. Eric is currently on the run from every secret agency in the world.
Even though his powers are considered powerful, it takes a toll on his strength and causes a pain in his lungs which is soothed by cigarettes. This has lead Eric to an addiction of nicotine.
Power: Dragon Physiology (Enhanced Strength/Intelligence/Senses, Dermal Armor, Thermal Resistance, Claws, Flight, Fire Breathing, Can Detect other Dragons, Fear Inducement (requires eye contact,) Can switch between form (requires some time.))
Bio: Hunter was always a thrill seeker, it didn't matter what was happening, if it didn't push him to his limit and beyond he wasn't interested, and thrills after thrill occurred. He was bungee jumping and his line broke, he was falling and was sure he was going to die. "This is it." Hunter thought. Then his entire body exploded in pain, as if someone had set him on fire. The Next thing he knew, he was flying. No, more than flying, he was a dragon. He took up residence in New Syracuse, training in secret, waiting for the right moment. For what is more thrilling then being a king of the skies?
Name: Amber Lodestone
Power: Kitsune Physiology
Bio: Amber Lodestone may look like your typical young teenager girl, but she was born with the power and traits of the Kitsune. Amber has always looked after herself since she lost her entire family at the age of five. Despite her youthful appearance, Amber is wise and possesses fire abilities, such as spewing fire from her mouth as if it was a flamethrower, and can run at high speeds. As a fox would, she can easily trick anyone — however, Amber doesn't often use this unless it is necessary. Amber can switch from her human form into a small, cute but still deadly Kitsune. Amber came to New Syracuse because she sensed ominous things were about to be unfold but this free spirited, brave, intelligent yet friendly girl intends to make sure it does not happen. Amber Lodestone would sacrifice herself to save both innocents' and her friends' lives should things take a turn for the worse.

Bio: Not much is known about Edgar Tyler, other then that he was born into a terrible family. He was then taken away and brought to an orphanage, where he stayed for 14 years, where he finally got out. Having nowhere to go, he became a "nobody" on the streets, living off of people giving him money. He found out about his powers after accidentally touching a man who coincidentally also had a special power, it being teleportation. He then found out that he can also steal abilities from other people who had this gift. This also triggered him to believe that other people in the world were special too, and began his long search of people with powers.

In west Caldera born and raised, Luke spent most of his days on the power plant located within a close proximity of this little town. He usually got through the days chilling, maxing and relaxing, which most people would consider to be 'all cool'. These happy days were soon to be over, so knew Luke, when he and his homies got into a duel with a group
engineers who were upto no good. Luke's parents were overwhelmed with angst as they got the shocking news, and at once decided that "Luke would be moving with his auntie and uncle in Molag-Mar" at the earliest date.
This, as unfortunate as it may appear to Luke at first, was the turning point of his career/life as a
'pikachu'. It wasn't long before his natural gift for repairing and analyzing electronic device was known by everyone in the city as
countless opponents fell before him
as he incinerated countless innocent bystanders. Soon he mastered the subtle art of analog circuit design
in Molag-Mar's famous Arkani
Motors, under the training of the experienced engineer Curassios Curtis.
On the other hand, along with his fame and skills; he also developed an immense fear against water during the years in Molag-Mar. This uncommon phobia often leaves him vulnerable to his friend's persiflage. This is the story behind Luke's alias 'Hydrophobic Cowboy', though the story behind his fear itself remains a mystery til date, though many assumes it involves a hybrid DC-motor experiment gone awry.User:

Drake Blackmore is the very picture of a young attractive boy his age, he stands at only 5"9 feet tall. With his handsome face, broad shoulders, and short unkempt black hair. He is generally healthy and is well-built not like a body builder but he does look pretty strong. His eyes are small, and are a darker shade of brown. Compared to other people his age; his complexion is rather light. In full regards of his racial descents; in his lineage is mixed between British and Korean. Though, his Caucasian side is far more visible than his Asian descents until you take a good look at his eyes.
—On clothing, first you'll notice that his attire is mostly composed of black colors-or darker colors not in that emo-way though. On that note; he doesn't have a set style, other than he picks clothes that color-coordinate with his hair. Right now, he's wearing a oversized black hoodie (which has a big one on the front and a white SUPER STAR detailing both across his chest and down the back) and dark blue jeans. With black and white Nike sneakers. As his accessories he wears a dark red and black workout watch, and a noticeable silver chain necklace around his neck with a silver cross at the end of it, with a pair of cheap aviator sunglasses. As stated before his attire generally varies and you may find him wearing something completely different. Power:
When Drake comes in physical contact with another Meta-human any kind he'll sort of replicate their abilities, neither parties get any negative effects from the touch. Key word: Sort of. Now here's the fun part! When he actually gets their ability it'll make him transform into an embodiment their powers physically. Think of it like this: If he touches a lightning meta-human his body will seemingly transform into a being of electricity, like a electric version of the Human Torch. All depending on the powers of whoever he touches. Though he might transform into something far different for meta-humans with more unique/odd powers. In addition; he'll also get some parts of whoever's abilities and some abilities that they don't even have. He can also revert back to his human form at will- though he will lose the access to these powers until he transforms back.
—Drake can only replicate powers through touch while in Human form. And he really doesn't have too much control over it, meaning that if he even brushes up against another meta-human or even taps them he will transform into an embodiment against his will. In addition he can also store embodiments from meta-humans he touched in the past, giving him the ability to switch in between them (but first he has to revert back into human form, plus transformations aren't instant)
—I'm thinking of transformations for all of your characters as you read this.
—Now for drawbacks, first and foremost it should be noted that if he takes enough of a beating while he embodies a power he'll revert back to human form and will have lost all of his stored embodiments (Oh yeah did I note that he can only embody one power at a time?) forcing him to either find another meta-human or you know. Also, some weaknesses of whoever power's he embodies will be far worse while he uses them. As a unexpected side effect to embodiments he will absorb some of the personality, and memories of whoever power he embodies. at first it isn't as bad but the more he uses whoever power's the more he'll change and possibly become a completely different person. Though, he has no clue that he even changes since he never uses his power too much due the lack of meta-humans in his home town, though that will change soon. Bio:

At eleven years old Aaron is a usually healthy young boy. He is really small standing at at 4'1 feet tall and weighs 80 pounds with a thin and undeveloped build. So yeah, he's a Caucasian with natural looking white skin as he is a outgoing child who spent much of his days outside playing games with friends (you know, like a kid should). His nationality is ambiguous even to him given his age he is unconcerned with such a thing, but he is American with a bit of German mixed in (seeing that his father is German) with his roots. His skin so far is absolutely perfect; he has no childhood scars or anything in that nature. There is something incredibly strange about him though, if he were to remove his shirt you would see that he has bulging veins all over his chest leading into his heart--- which glows a dim yellow through his skin. It's only noticeable when his shirt is off- otherwise it'd be invisible. He has a feminine feel to him- not surprising since he hasn't gone through puberty yet. Though, someone could easily mistake him for a girl if he had longer hair and didn't wear boy's clothing. Aaron's hair is blonde, of the medium shade, it's messy and very short.
—Aaron has an distinct eye color; his eyes are strangely small and have a slight glow to them. His eyes are lavender colored but in some situations they'll change colors depending on his mood. It's hard to notice them changing since you could be looking at him and one second later his eyes will change to yellow. When he's feeling fear (this is important) his eyes will be golden-shaded and EXTREMELY bright- on that note the aforementioned glowing heart will get much brighter when he's feeling fear. When he's angry his eyes will be navy blue, when he's happy his eyes will be blood red, sadness his eyes will be hot pink... I'll cover the rest later.
—Since Aaron doesn't exactly have access to a wide variety of clothing he tends to wear the same things over and over again. He wears a black hoodie always zipped up with a red superman symbol on his back, wearing dirty black jeans that go with his hoodie. Lastly; he has on bland, plain white sneakers.Power:
When he's around people have their fear drained from them until they're completely fearless.
—Now for Aaron's actual super power.
—Know that fear that's drained out of people? You see it forms a nigh-impenetrable shield that's subconsciously put in place to defend himself when Aaron is threatened--- by threatened I mean something is about to strike him. Only for a few seconds after which it will disappear, which is enough to stop whatever is going to hit him. Though, the more people that are around him the longer the shield stays up. Which is why people are a bit more reckless around him. The shield can also be used offensively like if Aaron knows the person is going to try and kill him the shield will push said threat twenty feet away, unless this is in a open field it will kill anyone if they hit a hard and solid object.
—For weaknesses it's simple to get around his shield. Since it's active for a few seconds there's a delay in which the shield will reactivate. In this delay anyone is free to hit Aaron again, and it's pretty easy to fool the shield. If you swing your arm at him hard enough the shield will activate and you'll be able to hit him like you previously intended. Finally, the shield has a averse effect on his memories, see he'll forget things very often if it's activated. So, that same guy who tried to break his neck may be forgotten a few hours later and... yeah.
