Let's face it, EVERYONE has at least one idea for a video game in their heads. Whether it's a take on an FPS, or a creative puzzler, I'm sure all of you have your ideas and such.

So, post away! I'm interested in hearing (loltheinternetisbecomingmysixthsence) your ideas!

PS: Don't be afraid to go into detail. That makes it all the more interesting happy.

OH BOY TIME TO SHINE

*gets out papers and sits on a chair*

Once when I was about 12ish I thought of some kind of RPG with a story similar to Avatar (The movie, not the cartoon), where there was this magical forest of magic and forest with all these centaurian and anthromophic creatures everywhere, but then these random human characters with large ammunition invaded and began to declare war on the woodland creatures, causing them to find refuge underground. A few years pass, and the centaurs and anthros by now have built an underground citiy below their forest, which was now torn down and built on by the invading humans, who have built large cyberesque cities over it's foundation. The Foresters, being new to technology, invented something else; steam power.

So the story starts off with you choosing what you wanted to play as. You had a choice of 3 characters: Centaurs (Which were good with ranged weapons such as guns/bows), Anthromorphic animals (you could choose from a fox, racoon and wolf, which affected your stats. Eg. Foxes were good at sneaking, Racoons were fast and good at finding resources and Wolves were better at melee combat) and, for some reason, Anthromorphic dragons (Were good with magic). From there, you chose what your character looked like, named them, and then got to choose what their professions were (Eg. Engineering, combat, magic) and you would begin.

You'd start off in this depressing steampunkesque underground city. You'd explore the area, and learn the basic controls as to how to move about. Depending on what profession you took, you'd need to get to a certain area to continue (Eg. Engineers needed to visit a blacksmith; warriors needed to find an armoury, magicians needed a temple.) When you get there and talked to the correct NPCs, something happens: the underground city is found by the human empire, and you must escape. Depending on what your profession is, you’d get different roles in how you aid the evacuation if the city. Engineers would have to collect parts from around the city for safekeeping. Warriors would defend various NPCs, and magicians would create diversions to distract human attackers. While doing this, The game would teach you how to use certain commands for your profession. After the tutorial has been completed successfully, the creatures escape through an escapes route to the surface.

When the creatures escape, the humans decide to plant explosives in the deserted city, and boom, no more steampunk city. After the humans are sure the animals have gone and have left, the creatures return to find the city ruined. From there, they decide to fight back with what’s left. Having collected parts earlier, the animals begin creating various low quality steam powered weapons and armour. This is where the game gets in full swing, where you have to go to the surface and go through various cyber dungeons, levelling up and collecting different parts along the way to upgrade your equipment. After 5-10 levels, there would be a boss fight, usually against giant robots.

When you are a higher level, you learn how to use different equipment, such as steam powers jet engines and night-vision goggles. These were usually quite expensive, and needed certain parts from certain dungeons.

At around the end of the game, there would be an event where the creatures decide to form an army against the humans who took over their forest, and form a large army. From there, you’d fight though hordes of enemies, with lots of NPCs fighting alongside you. Then, you’d come across the main building in the middle of the cyber city, where the leader was located. The creatures decide, because of the defences in said building, they should send in one person to find a safe way in, who would the alert reinforcements when they get to the leader. Of course, you’re the lucky one who does this. Unfortunately, when you’re almost there, your steam equipment causes you to get caught. When you’re taken to the leader to be executed, reinforcements rush in, which distract the guards, leaving only you and the leader to fight.

When the leader is defeated, the humans retreat, and the city is left abandoned. Deciding that there’s no use in ridding of technology, they claim the city for themselves. However, there are now several other human colonies which are now aware of your presence, and thus begins end-game content of you doing more challenging dungeons and finding even more stuff.

...So how’s that?

PostSubject: Re: Your Very Own Video Game   Your Very Own Video Game EmptySun Dec 11, 2011 9:28 am

My idea was that of a 3rd person shooter. I sketched the ideas down in a notebook. I planned to use some captains from my spore game as the characters, provided I could animate them. They would be my Ravis (see sig), my Eviscor and Tree creatures (see below), plus the W3RM skin from Ratchet Gladiator. But since the latter is impossible to get for myself, I would have to settle with another Spore creature.

The map would be a square from above, with a body of water dividing the map into thirds, one third on each side which would be land, and the middle being water (or something else liquid. You die if you walk in it).

In the middle of each piece of land, at the far ends of the map, would be two identical towers with rectangular prisms for bases and a huge cylinder rising from the roofs.
You would ascend the towers to find a flying vehicle.

In fact, I made most of this in the Genesis 3D map maker, but I didn't know enough of the program to use it properly. I'm not sure if the file works anymore. I didn't make the vehicles or texture the map or make the water dangerous or liquid, nor do I know how to properly handle the collada files of my spore creatures. I did come a step close, however.

I'm always coming up with game ideas. Usually they are designed (in my mind) as very complex Flash games, or things made in a similar program. I have thought up the occasional idea for a 3D game, usually involving my Spore Creatures, but I usually almost immediately drop it, as I feel as if that's completely out of my range.

Here's a game I thought up probably only a few weeks ago:
Spoiler:

It's pretty bad, I know, Especially the naming. However, other than the first paragraph pretty much everything was made as I went along. So It'd need some major improvement, although it was supposed to be somewhat-quirky. Meh. I still think it's a horrible idea, but maybe it'll inspire somebody else to make something greater... or give someone diarrhea... razz

Wow I must say this is a genius thread. Over the years I've always had many ideas for video games. I think I've had a really good idea for each major category. But one I thought I'd share is an Strategy and FPS MIX. My biggest complaint about strategy games is that they are never as detailed as I'd like them to be. So I would make a strategy game where the main campaign map resembles that of Total War where you can see where your large armies and settlements are. From there you zoom in to a specific region where the game becomes an RTS where units are moving, similar to that of Ruse. When two or more opposing units come into contact, you have to option to fight as your units or auto-resolve (Similar again to Total War). The battle would be a mix between the tactical and realistic battles in Total War and the classic arcade style RTS games like Halo Wars or Command and Conquer. From there you could command your units from an RTS standpoint, or zoom in even further and take control of your units directly, turning it into a squad-type FPS. And not a horrible quality FPS, but with decent graphics. As for the detail portion, I thought it would be a cool feature if there were units running around which you didn't control on your side engaging other minor enemy units just for the fun of watching little battles, but these guys can also assist you in a battle if they are near your position in the event of a conflict. There would also be NPC scouts you could send out on patrol which would relay enemy positions to you if they are not destroyed. These are only a few ideas for this game, I could have gone on for hours...but didn't.

Your Very Own Video Game Empty
PostSubject: Re: Your Very Own Video Game   Your Very Own Video Game EmptySun Dec 11, 2011 11:23 pm

Alright, now that the thread seems somewhat of a success, I'll give you an idea of my own; one that has been developed over countless years. It borrows certain aspects of the Katamari Damacy games, with the glaring difference between the two is that in one, you're rolling up stuff into a huge ball, and in the other you're controlling a humanoid robot that can absorb the elemental and overall genetic makeup of the objects and enemies you destroy to improve yourself, grow larger, and create weapons, armor and other things to help you achieve your goals. I call this game Core.

*ahem*

You begin the game as a small, blue ball of metal and light around the size of a baby ant. Upon further examination of your surroundings, you realize that you are inside of a glass box, and that a team of scientists are looking at you through a microscope. To your left, you see a small computer chip around your size. Upon looking at it, you realize that you can scan this chip, so you do! Simple enough, but when you scan it, you are given some knowledge that the scientists put into it, the first of which is that you are an artificial intelligence that was made for storage and military purposes. An image file is also implanted into it that appears to be a blueprint for a 'skeleton' which depicts a human-like robotic chassis. You also learn that the reason the scientists are watching you is because you can absorb the materials of other things to make yourself grow. You are asked to try this out by absorbing the very chip. You do, so GREAT JOB!

The only thing that bothers you at this time is that you don't appear to have changed much, and that the light emanating from you has suddenly turned green. This is when you're taken to the menu. After a short look-around, you realize that you have just absorbed 2 units of metal, and that you have 2 new blueprints; one of which is improved storage space, and the other being the humanoid chassis you just scanned. Each of them costs 1 unit of metal, so you spend your hard earned goods on it, and BAM, you are now the humanoid robot I mentioned earlier and can now hold 10 units at one time instead of only 2. You are then dropped into another glass box that is much bigger than one you started in. It is also very tall (from perspective anyway) and were dropped from the top without a parachute, causing you to take some damage while the scientist who just dropped you gets yelled at by another one who appears to be the one who invented you, telling from his fancy-dancy lab coat and ridiculously large goggles. To put things short, you're damaged and need to find a source of metal to repair yourself. It's at this time that Goggleman drops another chip into your box that contains a regeneration module and --get this-- a needle which is your first weapon!

So, after hacking and slashing through a couple ants, absorbing both them and some tin foil along the way, you gradually grow and grow until you are around the size of a mouse. It is that time which you are guided into a larger box to accommodate. It's then that you grow to the size of the average man's forearm, and are in almost perfect fighting condition, with advanced armor and weapons, both melee and ranged. Then, a general kills some of the scientists and holds Goggleman captive and you're force-guided into an incineration pit... in which you escape by thinking up a hammer blueprint to smash open the glass. Now you know two things right now: One, red-masked soldiers are your enemies, and two, you need to get out of there before they destroy you.

The rest of the game pretty much flows into a sandbox mode once you escape the laboratory you're in, and gives you a morality system that determines how you're viewed by the public. By killing innocent civilians, you'll be considered a threat to humanity and you'll eventually get targeted by more than the Red Masks if you keep it up, but if you kill things like invading aliens and mutant sewer reptiles, you'll be regarded as a hero, and you'll get the support of the world in your quest to defeat the Red Masks's leader. You generally want to keep it in the middle, mainly because you don't want to get your sorry butt nuked, but at the same time, you don't want to be a mere tool to the city's defense force. And that's pretty much the basics to Core.

All of them sound pretty cool happy.

Anyhoo here's my idea:

It's an RPG set on a Fantasy planet very similar to our earth called Terarat, and inhabitted by Humans. It revolves around the story of a group of adventurers, One called Quake Mykael, who i've drawn a couple of times, and am currently waiting to digitalise, One called Logan Hi-Wen, another called Grey Hi-Wen, and the fourth a cute rogueish girl (called Clarity?).

The twins Logan and Grey are an odd couple, Grey is evil and hellbent on bringing about the destruction of Terarat, Logan good and aimed to save Terarat, they are working in perfect opposition to each other, each wishing to kill the other, but not being able to as they can only live if their counterpart lives.

You take the role of Quake Mykael who must escort the two twins to an unknown planet known to be inhabitted by aliens. You nor any of the other adventurers know of why you are escorting the twins, or what will happen to them, but you were all instructed on your quest by an old man known only as Master.

Quake Mykael, your character must defend the group, using his sword and gun, or his mechsuit. there will be large mech only areas and battles, as all characters have mechas, or transport mechas, and also on foot areas and battles. Along the way unknown organisations of humans, both guerilla and state controlled soldiers are sent to stop you as are many alien races, apart from the Ursikani who have a fondness for Quake. Quake has a personal interest as Master has told him that if he escorts the twins the one woman he longs for will be his. He takes this to mean his deceased mother, but it actually means the cute rogueish girl who he rescues and he becomes more and more attached to.

At the final destination you find that the Master wished to achieve the impossible ,and separate the strange link between the twins, so he could kill the evil Grey, and free Logan. But instead what happens is that the two become one, one supremely powerful being who must be defeated before he de-stabilises the very dimensional fabric of sub-space. This is the ultimate planetwide boss battle, and when victory is achieved, the new couple return to the master, who explains his motif to them on his deathbed, and then reveals to him that they both had achieved their dreams, in the form of each other, before dieing

Wow, I really like your game Ion! Great plot. Terwynd's great too, kind of like mine only waaay better. I mean, I still like the general idea of mine, but I guess I need to work on the bosses and provinces and such...

Spoiler:

As you probably guessed, I have a lot of spare time. I'm posting these games here so I can forget about them and find better things to think about. razz

Your Very Own Video Game Empty
PostSubject: Re: Your Very Own Video Game   Your Very Own Video Game EmptyWed Dec 14, 2011 3:48 am

There are some nice ideas on this thread, but now I must add my own: It is a 3D fantasy game that I created (in my head). It has many customizable options, and I think it has a fairly original sstoryline built on the basis of an old one (Y'know, "Small unknown boy/girl goes on an epic quest, saves their world, and becomes a hero"). You would be able to choose between four classes (Ranger, Knight, Mage, Healer) and multiple options for appearence. It would include something that I really like in games: Interactive cut scenes and epic boss battles. Well, without further ado, here it is:

Primordial
(<- Ooo, look at that title!)
So basically the idea is that you are a great hero in a fantasy land. But it didn’t start that way; you were once a simple child with a dreadful destiny. The land is full of both grand, lush forests filled with woodland creatures to barren volcanic wastelands that harbor unimaginable evils. Recently, the land has been plagued by strange occurrences, from torrential rain in deserts and volcanic badlands to fire falling from the sky. Most of the villagers blame this on having dishonored their gods, but a few elders know of the true, sinister reason these things are happening. One day you find a strange summons to a secluded place in the woods. The journey would be many days, and you don’t know where the letter came from, but you feel compelled to go. So you set off through the forest and face many perils, such as oversized normal predatory animals (Bears and such) to living plants. There will be a long trail to your destination, where you will progressively meet stronger enemies (and see some that you will not get to fight till much later in the game), and even a side quest to save a little girl from a band of goblins (Side quests give you extra XP and items for completing them) After a while, you will near your destination. As you approach, however, the Earth beneath you splits as you narrowly escape death from falling in (Hopefully, that part would be an interactive cut scene where you press the jump button a lot) a lesser Earth elemental crawls out. This begins the first (and least inventive) boss battle in the game, which would consist of simply a regular battle with a more powerful enemy. This is due to the fact that you can battle more lesser Earth elementals later, so it would be strange for them to behave differently.
Then you arrive at an old hut built in the side of a hill, that you somehow sense is where you were headed the whole time. Inside is an old man. (Kind of a Gandalf-ish character) The man is a great mage (One of the seven, a part of the society of the world which you would have learned about previously by talking to people in your starting village) who has consulted the other great mages, who have come to a horrible realization: The strange happenings in the world are not caused by the gods, but by ancient beings known as the primordials. Of course you immediately respond with the question “What does this have to do with me?” The man, who tells you his name is Eldrin, says that a hero was foretold to rise from you village when the primal spirits once again rose to regain control of the world, and he has decided that it is you. Before you can protest and tell him that he probably made a mistake, a much, MUCH larger Earth Elemental (A greater Earth Elemental) breaks through the house, nearly (or succeeding in, another interactive cut scene) crushing you with its massive hand. Eldrin manages to fight off the beast with an incredible show of magical power. As soon as the beast dies, Eldrin tells you that you must hurry to a town called Elrath’s Reach, and that the appearance of the Earth elemental only proves that he was right about you, and the primordials have already discovered your true identity. He says then when you get there, you need to prepare for the journey you must make, and to speak with a man called Thandus (another of the seven mages) to know more of what you must do. Strangely, you do as the man says and take off down the road, headed for Elrath’s Reach.
When you reach the city (It is not too far, and the journey there is mostly the same as the trip to Eldrin’s house, but with no bosses or sidequests) you can interact with the villagers to learn about many things you can do (Smithing armor and weapons, crafting armor from hide if you are a ranger, tutors for all types of fighting, etc.) or to buy items with gold you may have from slaying monsters, or sell items they dropped. Careful what you sell, as many things can be used to craft magical or special weapons (The lesser Earth Elemental, for example, drops a lesser crystal of elemental power, which can be added when forging any metal weapon (including arrows) to make a lesser weapon of Elemental Earth) When you are done exploring the city, you have to find Thandus’s house. He tells you there, as Eldrin said, more of what you must do on your quest. He explains that the primordials were sealed away in the far realms by the gods long ago. These realms are planes made of pure energy, one for each of the primordials. No one knows how they have finally managed to finally control the natural world from their faraway planes of existence, but unfortunately the most likely reason is that they have managed to return to the natural world in some way. It is your job to rid the world of their evil, destroying their children (The elementals) and cutting off whatever is allowing them to slip back into the world. He does not give you any method of achieving this, but tells you there are temples scattered throughout this world and several other planes of existence that either harbor elemental hotspots, or that could have clues as to where other such places may be. He points you towards the only known one such place in the forest of the ancients, which has a powerful connection to the power of Elemental Earth.
The rest of the game is played through your quest to these ruins and temples, some of which you discover are not so abandoned, even finding that the one that harbors the heart of darkness is deep in Myndaria’s (The evil dragon god of shadows in this world) fortress. You face many bosses and have the opportunity to go on many side quests throughout your journey. You travel through several planes of existence and learn many secrets about the ancient days of the primordials, and eventually find out how it is they are once again controlling the natural world: There is a spot of weak resistance to the other planes in a wasteland called “The shattered lands”. The primordials discovered this link, and have been manipulating the natural world through it. They will not stay away from the world for long, and you know they are trying to find a way to re-enter the world through it. It is only a matter of time before they wage war with the gods. Desperate to stop the coming onslaught, you decide to sacrifice yourself to destroy the link between the planes. To do so you must create a portal to the far realms, but doing this would unleash the primordials faster than they would by escaping on their own. Instead you make a one-way portal, and find a way to cut off the connection from their end. By using items collected in your journey (and some you set out to find after deciding to make the portal, the only one I’ve actually given a name to is the ashes of the phoenix) you construct the portal that will lead you to the far realm. When you finally force yourself to travel through the portal, it takes you to the Elemental Plane of ice. There you try to find your way to the primordials’ end of the link between the planes, but are unable to stand against the might of the ice elementals that swarm you quickly after you enter their domain. They bring you to their master and father, Khion, Primordial of ice. There, he uses you for entertainment in his arena, where he forces you to battle his minions (Ice elementals, a blizzard dragon, ect.) When you manage to survive everything he throws at you, he gives you a proposition: Survive a fight against Alterion, the first ice elemental created, and earn your freedom for three days, three days to get away. You accept the challenge, and face him. (Boss battle) Not only do you survive the battle, but you mange to kill Alterion. Surprisingly, Khion keeps his word and sets you free, and does not send his minions after you for three days. During the time you spend in the far realm, you continually feel a dark presense, something worse than the primordials, prying in your mind. In that time, you find the opening to the link between the planes, and the other primordials have nearly broken through to the natural world. In an attempt to destroy the rift, you get sucked in. You are horrified to discover that you enter the natural world through the portal in the far realm. This means that the primordials have succeeded in returning to the natural world. Sure enough, soon elemental energy begins pouring into the land, and Luna, Grailian, and Cindarion (The primordials of water, Earth, and fire) become the first Primordials in millennia to be present in the natural world. IN a final effort to save the world, you attack Cindarion (Boss battle; Cindarion has the most power of the primordials). You fail miserably, and barely manage keep yourself alive against the god-like being. When Cindarion is about to finish you off, a bolt of light strikes him. It appears to do little to the primordial, but soon Elrath, the main god of the people of the land (And also the god of light), materializes to protect you. As you look around, all of the gods that the people of the land worship have now come to your aid, including Myndaria (Whom you had angered when you were in her domain). They challenge the primordials, and a massive battle breaks out, as the rest of the primordials and millions of elementals pass through the rift. During the battle you begin to flee (knowing that you cannot stand against the primordials), but are drawn back to the now open portal to the far realms. You know that something else was back there, something far more evil than the primordials. Hoping that if you can find and defeat whatever it is, it will somehow draw the primordials back to their land. You journey through the land of madness that is the far realm, and after many horrible battles and trials, you find an ancient temple at the border of all the different elemental planes in the far realm. Painted everywhere in the temple are images of an ornate eye with each of the elemental symbols around it. Eventually, after facing many strange creatures that appear to be made of multiple elements in irregular fashions, you come across a large door that leads to a staircase. You manage to force yourself to go down the staircase to face what may be at the bottom. At the bottom, you see a horrible being made of what appears to be unstable energy, as it will not stay in one shape or form for long. It is chained with a magical type of metal to a wall larger than a city, which it can barely fit against without being crushed between the floor and the ceiling of the room. It has one gruesome eye that glares at you, and a horrible sound begins echoing throughout the chamber, something that seems to be laughter. The being lashes out at you with energy, and you barely avoid being incinerated by it. Soon, however, you wish you had, as you see that the being somehow pulled itself free by using you as a handhold. You swallow your fear, and battle against the great being that appears to have been created long before the primordials. This is the final boss. During the battle the great being (Called “The Elder Elemental Eye”) Cackles and mocks your feebleness, speaking in a horrible voice that sounds ancient and evil, that would give you nightmares if you didn’t know it was a game. You barely manage to keep up your battle with the being, when suddenly you feel a surge of power. Your armor and weapons begin to glow gold, your voice sounds echoey, and your eyes become circles of golden light. Gold markings appear down your arms, legs, and face. The true, long battle against the Elder Elemental Eye begins.

Sorry if you don't understand something (Which you probably didn'y, sorry about that) This is a super super simplified version of the story/gameplay elements. PLease ask if your curious about something.

I focus all my creative energy on writing fan fiction, which is sort of like making a video game, except with more drama. Though I have always wanted to adapt my Bobuck Quest series into a video game.

I have an idea, but it's rather old...

The game is a space game, a third-person shooter type, (Like dead space.) you can have companions, and it's an MMO. (SIMPLE VERSION.)

CAUTION: MASSIVE DESCRIPTION AHEAD:
There would be 5 different species, one, Humans, second, Tavronins, (Mechanical Lizard-men) Yunlins, Orgrons, and Jovlens. It's been a long time since I've worked on ideas for it, so the the names for the 4 other species might be different than what I had at first. If I remember more, I will post it. razz But, I do remember you get 9 companions, one of which you get to create, the rest you find throughout the game, and that's all I can remember at the moment.
